Very good historical fiction following two families from late 1600s til present day. It was hard to feel connected to the characters because their stories are brief, but still a good read. Fixin to watch the Nat.Geo adaptation.

The only bad thing about this collection of short stories is just that....they are only short stories. With almost every one I just wanted more. Jackson's writing pulls you in, her flawed characters and ability to plop you into the middle of their stories and then leave you wanting to know more is unreal. Loved it.
Excellent true crime. Recommended.
Had a custom order for a new baby. His name will be Calvin, so they of course needed a Hobbes 🙂
Always love Simone St. James. Another great page-Turner. Audiobook was excellent.
Listened to this trilogy on audio. Entertaining - stephen king fans will enjoy

It's when getting out of the car makes your glasses fog up, stepping out the front door is like getting a blast of the devil's breath in your face, afternoon thunderstorms don't cool it down, they just make it feel more like a sauna, you never wear makeup, always wear a ponytail and live in shorts, sleeveless tees and flip flops when you see someone up north talk about being hot you just say "bless their heart" ?
Set during the early years of Louis XIV's reign. I enjoyed this historical fiction but liked Koen's trilogy about Charles Stuart better.
Just added this to my Etsy shop today. I love how he turned out. 💙💙💙
After watching the Netflix series, I wanted to read the source material. Really interesting memoir about a community I didn't know much about. #recommended
From Goodreads "A young woman finds the most powerful love of her life when she gives birth at an institution for unwed mothers in 1883 Philadelphia. She is told she must give up her daughter to avoid a life of poverty and shame. But she chooses to keep her."
Another really good historical fiction I've read this year. #recommended
Earlier this year I scratched this classic off of my TBR. Great historical WWII era fiction. I also just now realized the covers line up as I was taking this pic lol
From Goodreads "Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias meet Dracula in this Southern-flavored supernatural thriller set in the '90s about a women's book club that must protect its suburban community from a mysterious and handsome stranger who turns out to be a blood-sucking fiend."
This was awesome. Grady Hendrix moves up my fave author list with every new book.
This year Tantor Audio began releasing Sharon Kay Penman's older books which are my all time faves.

It's been a minute since I posted here. Life got crazy ( understatement huh?) I hope to get back to regular posting. I have been reading of course :) Right now I'm into another SK short story collection.
Another great middle grade by Mary Downing Hahn.
I listened to this on audio and the narration really hurt this one. They should have had Bronson Pinchot narrate the entire book and not just the chapter intros. Ok story but not nearly as good as My Best Friend's Exorcism.
Ok not great. Good for an October spooky read but one I will have forgotten in a few weeks.
There are a handful of contemporary authors that I feel are just master storytellers and Alice Hoffman is definitely one of them. Set during WWII in France and Germany, this story is beautiful, heart breaking, and magical.
The latest toy I've added to my Etsy shop. This was a challenging pattern, but I love how she turned out 😊

Y'all. It's hot in the South. The feels like temp is 104. I want Fall 😭😭
Been busy, but jumping back into #quotsyoct19
The thing that pulls me out of a historical fiction book quickly is inaccuracies. The way the main character here, a noblewoman in 17th century England, traipsed around the countryside on horseback, unchaperoned, 9 months pregnant which she did the entire book, was so unrealistic I couldn't get past it. It just wouldn't have happened. Also the story was bland and predictable.
I enjoyed this so much! Set in Appalachia during the Depression, this is the story of Cussy Mary or Bluet as she is sometimes called, the last of the famous blue-skinned people of Kentucky. (Yes that is a real thing) Characters you love (especially her mule Junia), great story, historically accurate. Loved!
No secret King is a good storyteller, and this was a good read. It was missing something though. The kids connection to each other didn't seem as real or poignant as in past novels like It or The Body.
I had to share because I love how she turned out. Just added to my Etsy store this week 😊
