What SCOTUS did today was a very real fear in 2016. I recall begging people not to vote for Trump because he‘d appoint Justices who‘d take away a person‘s right to choose.
Sadly, people didn‘t listen. The days Hillary Clinton optimistically said were over are here. If you think you have as many rights as you had in 2016 - hell, as you had this morning - you‘re naive or purposely lying.
And if you voted Trump, I have nothing more to say to you.
(Please excuse the graffiti on this park bench 😬)
Happy to have started this #newyearwhodis pick from @Moll ‘s list during #PrideMonth! There are a lot of parallels between bisexual and asexual erasure and discrimination; it seems there is a pattern of being seen as “too straight” for the LGBTQIA+ community. I‘ll be continuing with this one today!
I promise I was already enjoying my pick for June‘s #AuthorAMonth before I posted to Instagram and before Chris Bohjalian noticed!
Long time no speak! I‘ve been busy and I‘m so happy to have the rest of the day off. #butanyway 😬
Happy Pride Month! I cannot tell you how pleased I am to have 4 books with ace rep in my house and available to add to my June TBR! It‘s so great to see YA fiction with asexual characters. I wish we‘d had these options when I was younger 🖤🤍💟💜
What are you reading for #pridemonth?
I really wish I‘d known this so I could‘ve saved a screenshot of the MANY books I had tagged to borrow eventually.
Totally bummed that funding was cut. #hoopladigital was a great resource and loan periods were a week longer than Libby.
On the other hand, I have yet another reason to read my shelves!
This is the third Boyne I‘ve read, and the second that I really loved. Maurice Swift is such an interesting, repulsive character.
My one criticism is that, as he seems to identify as aromatic and asexual, it‘s portrayed as just another negative aspect of his profile. Those of us on the ace spectrum get so much erasure, flack, or judgment that it seems like low-hanging fruit to pick with Maurice. He‘s terrible all on his own; leave us out of it!
As I continue my slow journey through a #chronologicalkingread, I realize I‘ve forgotten just how long this short story collection is.
I also notice that King was 45 when he wrote the introduction to the book. I‘m really glad he hadn‘t said everything he had to say at that point. Apparently, he hasn‘t yet, either! Lucky for us Constant Readers.
Highly recommend this one. It‘s well written, with humor, heart, and evidence of why Dave Grohl is such a well-liked dude.
I started this one shortly after Taylor died, so finishing it today, on the anniversary of Kurt‘s death, seems like a nod from the universe. Hoping Dave is okay today. I‘m glad he has a lot of love around him.
A weeklong #librarysale started today, and they were doing a “fill a bag for five bucks” deal! Here are a few shelves from the sale.
What‘s your best #booksale find? I got a hardcover copy of Obama‘s The Promised Land today. I‘m pretty pleased.
2022 is already a quarter over??
Here are my #quarterlystats. How'd you do these first three months?
#readingstats #quarterlyrecap #quarterlyreads
1. This book is amazing and I‘m really sad for Dave.
2. Wtf? This shipped new from Target in November and I never cracked it open before a few days ago. Wtf is this torn page about!?! I am so annoyed.
Editing as now I‘m annoyed AND insulted. A 2nd book ordered in Feb had a torn cover, so I emailed about both.
The pictured book they can‘t do anything about. The other one? They refunded me sixty. Four. Cents.
No more books from Target for me.
Finishing up this book, which has been languishing on #MountTBR for nearly a decade, this morning.
Heard the sad news about Taylor Hawkins when I woke up. I‘m speechless. But this panel stood out in light of his passing.
“The point is that we are all vulnerable to the slow and insidious practice of dehumanizing, therefore we are all responsible for recognizing it and stopping it.”
I‘m reading this one for #AuthorAMonth, and gosh, chapter 2 was difficult. Beautiful writing, which made the painful events that much more visceral.
I think I‘ll put it down for tonight and hope tomorrow‘s chapter is a bit brighter.
Yeah, no. What teenager describes her transgender boyfriend as “…a tran. He used to be a girl.”
Every character I‘ve met so far is annoying, but this is enough to tell me I can DNF now and move on to other books. You know, books where teenagers from NJ don‘t use “a tran”.
Is it worth reading the Wheel of Time for the first time? Considering the journey with podcast supplements like The Wheel Reads 💭🤔

I‘m horrible at keeping up with this throughout the year, but if at first you don‘t succeed…

I finished this one earlier in the week and I really enjoyed it! Now I kind of want to rewatch the movie adaptation to see how different it was.
Warm Bodies is funny, bittersweet, and thought provoking, if you stop and think what it means to be Dead or Alive.
(Also, I can‘t resist: what does a vegan zombie eat? Grains!)

Book mail is the best mail! These are all books I can add to my #AuthorAMonth2022 TBR!
Thanks, @Soubhiville
Does it count if you‘re a 43-year old child who celebrated with a B&N gift card spree, a few episodes of Gilmore Girls, and a bowl of hot lentil soup on a cold winter‘s day?
#thesimplethings
I had no idea this one was as long as it is! I did have a little trouble keeping track of all the characters, but it was entertaining, and the ending was pretty compelling!
Now, do I see if the movie is streaming or just go straight on to book 2? 🤔
#NYWD22 #NewYearWhoDis
The Beauty is an STD that makes people better looking - but two years in, with half of America infected, the price is becoming apparent. I‘m not sure what I was thinking, starting this series as we enter year two of Covid, but 🤷🏻♀️
This first volume is violent and vivid; of course it ends on a cliffhanger, so on to the next we go!
#hoopla
Happy New Year! Starting the reading year off with a graphic novel and my first #NYWD pick.
A high school senior, oblivious to girls, gets help from his pumpkin patch BFF in a last ditch effort to talk to the girl he likes from afar.
The story may be a little predictable, but it serves as comfort food - kind of like the patch foods sampled throughout the book. Faith Erin Hicks did a great job illustrating.
#NewYearWhoDis
With a few days to spare, and with a few additional weeks needed for November‘s read, I‘ve finished my #authoramonth reading for 2021!
@Soubhiville - thanks for organizing this every year. I‘ve managed to read authors that have been on my “someday” list for too long, and I‘m so grateful!
Not really celebrating the holidays this year, but am thinking about the new year. Pictured here: my physical TBR. Suffice to say, I didn‘t very well with #PricePerPage in 2021!
What‘s currently irking me is my need to finish my current reads before the calendar flips. This arbitrary, self-imposed rule has me wondering what I can start and finish in the next 5 days.
Introverting with this collection to start the morning. I think Mindy would be proud.
Those who do evil in the name of their god really piss me off, and so I find the Ghost of Christmas Present tells no lies here.
In some ways, the slow increase of ace representation in books feels similar to the increase of vegan options in the world. If you‘d have told me I could have my pick of plant-based meats at the supermarket 12 years ago, I‘d have been skeptical. So I have to believe something similar is coming in book options!

Wishing the year was over for many reasons - 1 being that I‘m looking forward to not being so busy! @Moll has a great list of reads - half of which were already on my TBR!
As in years past, I‘ll definitely be taking this list further into 2022 than January.
Thanks as always to @monalyisha for being a great matchmaker!
#newyearwhodis #nywd22
Very excited about the 2022 list for #AuthorAMonth! This will be my third year participating, and I‘m already planning my Goodreads shelf!
Check @Soubhiville ‘s page for more info!
Sorry I‘ve sucked at being around this year. Another busy season has arrived and I‘m dreaming of a time when I didn‘t feel so removed from this community (through no fault but my own).
I don‘t often cry at books, but this one got me. I think the idea that Adrian adopted Grace even as he went searching for Vanessa hit me because my stepdad raised me from the time I was a baby until he died eight years ago. I definitely see this plot point through a biased lens.
I‘ve read all of Abby Jimenez‘s 3 published books over the past few months, and I‘m a fan. I‘m looking forward to her next one in 2022.
Just a reminder that #NonfictionNerds is still kicking after nearly two years! We have over 300 members, but just a handful who participate in the discussion threads. If you aren‘t already a member, or if you are but have been lurking, come say hi!
We‘ve read a lot of good books this year - some of which would never have landed on my TBR. For that, I‘m grateful.

Story of my (vegan) life, Beast Boy.
You guys, I‘ve been doing so good for a couple months now! I was even nearing a break even balance for #PennyPerPage!
Let‘s just say I blew it this morning. Thanks, Target.
Signal boost! Who‘s up for a #readathon?
#Hoopla alert! Helen Hoang‘s latest is available in audiobook format!
About to take it out for an #audiowalk. Happy reading!
Half of my 2021 reads were completed in July and August. I guess I can count this summer as a successful one on that front!
What I‘m happiest about is the fact that I didn‘t spend a penny this month, for the first time all year! I‘m still about $30 in the red for #pennyperpage, but I‘m hopeful for the end of year.
The last quarter or so of this book? Ouch.
I avoid confrontation at all costs, so I get Meg‘s trepidation about fighting.
I also realize that this avoidance and confrontation is probably a big reason why the number of people who stay in my life is quite small. Quite a bit of food for thought this early on a Wednesday morning...
