Just how many things can "one" be? One box of crayons. One batch of cookies. One world. One family. From veteran picture book author George Shannon and up-and-coming artist Blanca Gomez comes a playful, interactive book that shows how a family can be big or small and comprised of people of a range of genders and races.

I think this story would be a great way to introduce a lesson about how each individual is special and unique in your own way and that everybody brings something to the table.

This picture book is a cute story about how “one thing” is made up of multiple things. This is referencing how one family is made up of each unique individual. The pictures are very simple and great for engaging a child. There is also lots of representation in the illustrations of the characters.

Any book that has multiple learning aspects is a win for me. Not only does this book count through the numbers 1-10, but it also displays the importance of family. The images are warm and inviting, just as the family that is presented is warm and inviting.

This picture book counts from one to ten using different items or beings, but always comes back to one family. Each page displays the items being counted within the illustrations, but they are not always front and center. Being forced to search the pages gives the reader the opportunity to appreciate the warm and inviting color pallet, along with the particular shapes used in every aspect of the drawings.

I really enjoyed this book. It shows through beautiful illustration how every family can look different, but is still a family. In every classroom I‘ve been in, no two families have looked the same and I think this book does a good job of showing that.

One Family, is a picture book that explores different types of families. They have families of every number, color, size, you name it! It explores how different every family can be but at the end of the day everyone still has a family.

This book was a good read to see how a family is a family no matter the differences

This great picture book explore multiple different family‘s of very diverse and different backgrounds. But at the end of the day we are all one family, no matter if we have to dads, or two moms, no matter if we have different color skin or different religions, we are still one family.

I really enjoyed the approach of comparing items to family, as well as the illustrations that came with that.

This did a great job of valuing cultural identity. It made the concept simple for children to understand by comparing one bouquet of flowers to one family. It made it clear for children to understand different people in one family can look different, but they are still considered a whole. I also liked how they compared it to all the people in the world and how the earth is one family.

This book was a great multicultural book. I loved the message that everyone on this earth is family because we all work together no matter our differences. I thought that, that was a beautiful message. The pictures are beautiful, vibrant. This is a great book to focus on counting with a multicultural aspect as well. Very touching.

This shows that not everyone‘s families look the same and that they are unique and cool in their own way. This would be good for teaching diversity because there was several races, ages, home scenarios, etc

The illustrations were seamless with the text and illustrated everything it said. The text was clear and easy to read. I loved the diversity represented in the families as well.

I would use this book to demonstrate diversity in life to my classroom. Each family, household, living environment, etc is unique in their own ways. However, they are one family. Similarly to how the world is one family of humankind. We ate the same.

This book was written by George Shannon and illustrated by Blanca Gomez. It was published by Frances Foster Books in 2015. This story is about how every family may appear different on the outside but they are still a family. The whole world is a family so there is no use in focusing on our differences.

A fun, inclusive counting book. Appealing art and so many different types of families add up to a kid-friendly book that celebrates the complexity of what makes a family.
