RIP Ilse Aichinger. Born 1921 in Austria, survived the Holocaust, became one of the most important female authors in post-war German literature and was a member of the group 47. I have the impression she is mostly unknown in the English-speaking world, but I still wanted to post this. #deutsch #german
charl08 I've just looked at my library's catalogue - they don't have it. Should I start with this one? 8y
HijackMe @charl08 I'm ashamed to admit this, but Aichinger is still on my tbr-pile and I can't really make recommendations. I checked Amazon & Wikipedia, english translations seem to be mostly collections of her stories and prose and I think that's always the best starting point to see if you enjoy an author? Her only long novel "Herod's children" is also supposed to be great, but since it's about Jewish children in WWII Vienna expect it to be dark & heavy 8y
charl08 Thanks - the honesty appreciated as well as the info. 8y
