Okay. I get what this is trying to do, and I think it is well-intentioned. That being said, I felt icky after reading it. It felt exploitive. I wanted to give the author the benefit of the doubt, and I did a bit of research. Her connection to indigenous people is tenuous at best. Review continued in comments.

Krisjericho There is a huge need to bring awareness to the cause of the epidemic of murdered and missing indigenous women; I just didn‘t think a vague picture book with a very disjointed story meant to prey on your emotions by someone who has no personal connection to the cause is the way to do it.

Also, I found the pictures creepy.

Weaponxgirl That picture did put me on edge. I think sometimes people forget that just because something is important and should be done it‘s doesn‘t mean you should be the one to do it. 5y
JazzFeathers @Weaponxgirl l disagree. If something is important and needs to be done, everybody should do their tiny part. That's how big changes happen. We should also always remember who we are and keep firmly in mind what our limits are and so what it is the actual more meaningful contribution we can offer. 5y
Weaponxgirl @JazzFeathers I mean in the way that sometimes we don‘t have the full understanding of an issue to do it full justice. I agree that we should all do our part but to me personally that also means knowing when it‘s important to lift up the voices of others who know better than me. 5y
Weaponxgirl @JazzFeathers I hope I didn‘t come across as saying do nothing as that‘s not what I meant at all. 5y
Weaponxgirl @JazzFeathers 😁 thanks for bringing to my attention how that could have sounded 5y

A handful of Cree words are used in this tender picture book that addresses the topic of murdered and missing Aboriginal women. Suitable for age 4 and up. #nativebooks #picturebook #IndigenousVoices
