A Twist of the Knife
A Twist of the Knife: A Novel | Becky Masterman
"A crime novel that transcends the genre—a twisting, high-stakes story with characters so real and so recognizably human, that it breaks your heart a little. Brilliant." -Shari Lapena, author of the New York Times bestseller The Couple Next Door Ex-FBI agent Brigid Quinn, now happily settled in Tucson, doesn’t visit her family in Florida much. But her former partner on the force, Laura Coleman—a woman whose life she has saved and who has saved her life in turn—is living there now. So when Laura calls about a case that is not going well, Brigid doesn’t hesitate to get on a plane. On leave from the Bureau, Laura has been volunteering for a legal group trying to prove the innocence of a man who is on death row for killing his family. Laura is firmly convinced that he didn’t do it, while Brigid isn’t so sure—but the date for his execution is coming up so quickly that they’ll have to act fast to find any evidence that may absolve him before it’s too late... Edgar Award and CWA Gold Dagger finalist Becky Masterman’s third Brigid Quinn novel is the masterful follow-up to Fear the Darkness and Rage Against the Dying.

#2022Book4
This one was better than the first in the series and pretty much on the same level as the second. One of the more interesting characters from the first book was back and featured prominently, but one of the best characters from the second book was missing completely. The story itself was pretty solid, though predictable. The best part wasn't even the mystery, though, it was the side plot featuring Brigid's parents and their history.

#106 I am a huge fan of Brigid Quinn and I can‘t wait to devour this book!

Caffeinated_Reader Well there was a lot to process with this one. Such a tail spinning read. Some of her sentences leave me thinking about them for weeks, that‘s one of my favorite things about Mastermans writing style. Also I‘m a huge Brigid Quinn fan, she‘s witty and tuff and even her temperament is perfect. I need to buy the 4th one still but I‘m definitely looking forward to reading it! 5y

Another awesome addition to one of my favorite series! This wasn't even my favorite book out of the series and it was still way better than others like it. Very good but now begins the long wait for book four. #favoriteauthor

I love crime novels and I really enjoyed this one. A retired FBI agent, Brigid comes to help a former partner on a case for a guy who is on death row. Her partner think she didn't do it. Brigid has her own issues to deal with that make you really connect with her as a character. Well written, great pacing, interesting characters, I will be reading more of Becky Masterman. Oh and then I find out that there are TWO novels previous to this one!

I enjoyed this book. I have liked all the books in this series. This was a quick read and I enjoy the main character, even with her flaws. Overall, a good read.

Samantha.1020 I'm so excited to read this book as I'm a huge fan of this series., 8y

Mehso-so

I picked up Becky Masterman's crime thriller not realising that it was the third in a series and I think you need to read the earlier books to understand the family and friendship dynamics as I found both them and Quinn's behaviour around them difficult to believe in while the mystery itself never really grabbed me and becomes overwhelmed by Quinn's family problems.

Caitriona When I was younger it didn't bother me so much, starting part way through a series. These days I just can't stand it! 8y
IReadThereforeIBlog I don't mind so much when I know in advance (there was nothing on the Amazon blurb for this that indicated it was part of a series so I thought it was a standalone) or when the author gives you a short summary or conversation to bring you up to speed on the big points. I have a couple of books on my TBR pile that are the second in a series and will give them a go. 8y
