McElligot's Pool
McElligot's Pool | Seuss
11 posts | 13 read | 1 to read
Imagination runs wild in this Caldecott Honor-winning tale featuring Dr. Seuss's inimitable voice and hysterical illustrations. The first Seuss title to feature full-color art on every other page, this adventurous picture book tells of Marco-who first imagined an extraordinary parade in And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street-as he daydreams of all the possibilities that await him while he fishes in McElligot's Pool. Optimistic and exciting, this tale is the perfect bait, and readers young and old will be hooked on this fish-tastic favorite.

I was cleaning out my camera roll when I came across this and realized I forgot to do it. 😅
1. In A Dark, Dark Room and Other Scary Stories. I discovered it in summer school between 1st-2nd grade. I reread it nearly any time we had free reading.
2. Have my OG copy.
3. I wish like crazy I had read Anne of Green Gables as a young girl instead of an adult.
Not tagging anyone else since I‘m several days late already. 😂🤣😂

BookmarkTavern Thanks for sharing! I always love seeing responses, even if it‘s later. 😁 My mom loves Anne of Green Gables too, but for years she avoided reading it because everyone was telling her “it‘s about a girl who has red hair and hates it just like you!” 😂😂 4y

Winner of the Caldecott Medal. A story that first started out as a regular day fishing, turned to be a fun imagination to make things more interesting. The plot gave a great and detailed story line which added to the overall essence of the theme. When things look rough, never give up because you never will know of the great possibilities out there for you.

My favorite part was when he was talking about the different types of fish that could be down there in the pool. Cute story line that talked about imagining the different possibilities the pond could be reaching out to in the world.

The pictures are fun and I love the rhyming structure that Seuss uses to make it almost song-like for the teacher to read and for the students to follow!

McElligot's Pool is a book by Dr, Seuss, This book is a Caldecott winner. I really liked the illustrations in the book because I think that it helps draw children in when the book is nice and colorful. I also really loved the plot, because it helps push the message that you never know what is out there until you try it for yourself! I think this is a really fun book that teaches a good lesson through a fun and cute story.

This F PB by Dr.Seuss is a Caldecott award winning book and would make a great AS for students. This book teaches students to not give up and to always stick with your ideas even if people doubt you. The UDL guideline that I would use is 9.1 by setting expectations for students before they begin working on their author study with Dr. Seuss. I would also use the ESOL Strategy 6, to make sure students are comprehending while completing the author

WendyP Study. A useful link is http://m.seussville.com, it will take you to Dr.Seuss website and has several interactive games, videos and books for students to use. #UCFLAE3414F17 7y
JordanD I love Dr. Seuss and actually did a report on him in high school! I loved learning more about him and his life was kind of crazy! I haven't read this book though- so I'll be sure to keep my eye out for it! Love the resource! 7y
DrSpalding We have several glogs that you could use for the author study as well. His site is one that students could visit many times over.🙂 7y
Taylorhenderson3 I think it‘s crazy that even when you think you‘ve read them all, he still has an endless amount of books to find! The website is so enjoyable for kids to learn on. 6y
