I know I‘m obviously like 25 years behind the curve. However, this is my first time reading beyond the 1st book of the HP series, or I should say listening to the HP series. Audiobooks are my new addiction and I‘m so happy I waited a few weeks so I could join the potter-heads! I have screamed and laughed out loud in my car and I look forward to my daily commute. 2 weeks until I wrap up the series with the Deathly Hallows- I cant wait!

Ada Twist is a curious child who wants to know how the world works. She asks questions upon questions, and leaves a mess in her wake. Her parents wish she would give it a break! But in the end they understand they have to feed her curiosity not crush it in their hands. An amazing rhyming picture book that will inspire anyone to ask questions like a scientist.

Told from a variety of perspectives, including the narrators breaking the 4th wall, my Lady Jane has mystery, romance, action and quick humor that everyone can laugh at. Listened to on Libby app.

As one of my first audio book experiences I have to say the Golden Compass did not disappoint! The voice actors were amazing, and I was captivated the whole 11 hours! The first chapter or two was a little confusing and dense, but I soon got sucked into Lyra‘s world of Jordan College and her adventure to the North! There were many twists and turns that had me holding my breath and it ended with a cliffhanger I can‘t ignore! Next- The Subtle Knife!

This picture book biography was such a page turner! With fun word bubbles for more details and awesome illustrations, this book was not just fun to look at but full of information! Brad Meltzer portrays Jackie not just as a spotless hero and ball player, but as a kid who didn‘t always have food, didn‘t always make good choices, and had to preserver through fear in order to make history. I will be keeping an eye out for more of these gems!

I just read this for the first time and was blown away! Kate DiCamillo built a world of magic centered around a wisp of a mouse who has no business being a hero. She narrates the story from a place of honesty- showing the reader that each character has a story that affects their choices. I didn't want to put it down and would recommend for any classroom!

DrSpalding I've read most of her books! If you enjoyed this one, you must read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane! http://www.katedicamillo.com/books/edward.html 6y

Written by Bill Martin Jr. and illustrated by Eric Carle this F book is perfect for a CR with students. With a note about endangered species at the beginning this story focuses on and illustrates 10 endangered animals. I would utilize EL strategy 18 and have students do motions and movements like the animals on each page as well as UDL strategy 9.1 to promote the belief that each student can help endangered animals through the decisions they make.

Danny Crane is an 11 year old living in New York City with his mom in 1941. After his best friend falls from a fire escape after their latest round of mischief- Danny and his mom move to Hawaii to get away from the dangers of NY. Little did they know they would be living through one of the biggest tragedies America has ever seen. This HF is hair-raising look at the Attack at Pearl Harbor in the perspective of a boy discovering who he wants to be.

JordanD www.nationalgeographic.com/pearlharbor suggested by the Author, a wonderful resource that even includes a time sensitive breakdown of the events of Dec. 7 1941. I would utilize EL 26 and UDL 4.2 using information provided by Lauren Tarshis at the end of the book. Excellent choice for LC 7y
AJones I agree, this F book about Pearl Harbor would work nicely in a LC. I like how you included a link (National Geographic)with real information, which enhances your book choice. You could include NF literature with primary sources that describe what lead to the war between the U.S. and Japan. This could easily turn into a unit. Thanks for sharing, Ashlie 7y
JordanD Great point @AJones! This could be a fun unit that expands into social studies! 7y

Sabrinac Jordan, this book looks very interesting and like it would be a great one to read during a social studies lesson about Pearl Harbor! I think that it would grab the students interest, and the lesson you picked looks like it would teach them a lot about the events that happened on December 7th, 1942. I really enjoyed your review!(: 7y
DrSpalding You can't do better than National Geographic! High-quality resource to complement a wonderful, relatively new book series for children. Excellent UDL and EL alignment. 7y
JordanD Thank you @DrSpalding! I am definitely adding this series to my classroom library! They are great springboards to gain interest into history! 7y
DrSpalding I couldn't agree more!❤️📚 7y

Bobbi Gibb loves to run and when she sees the Boston Marathon runners for the first time she knows she has to be a part of it. This book with vivid watercolors that accompany narration and couplets is a great way to get students into biographies. Best used as a DR, this B about perseverance through adversity is a great addition to any classroom. I would use UDL strategy 2.2 to clarify couplets and narration and EL 4 to link prior knowledge

JordanD #ucflae3414fl17 http://www.theclassroombookshelf.com/2017/04/the-girl-who-ran-bobbi-gibb-the-fir... and this is a class resource page that shows how the text can be used in many applications. I like the idea of running and then writing! 7y
AJones I loved the vivid colors throughout this NF book. I was admiring it after your book boost. You did a great job by the way. 🙂Persist women like Bobbi have given us our civil rights and freedom of choice. Very empowering book! Your idea of running and writing is an excellent idea. It gets the kiddos outside. 🏃🏽‍♀️ 7y
JordanD Thanks @AJones I love this book! I think I'm gonna have to add it to my library for sure 7y

Family and basketball are the most important things to 12 year old basketball star Josh Bell. Josh's world is being shaken in more ways than one in this Newbery and Coretta Scott King award winning RF by Kwame Alexander. Kwame Alexander uses verse that jumps off the page and gives personality to Josh as he decides what is important and how to keep his life together in this moving coming of age story.

JordanD https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IbMj6lG4shM. UDL principle 4.1 vary response and navigation. EL 16 integrate speaking, writing, listening, and reading activities #ucflae3414f17 7y
DrSpalding There is nothing like hearing the author read his own work. Kwame is fantastic! Don't forget that Josh is a twin and that there is a powerful message of hope and loss in this multi-award winning book. ❤️📚 7y
JordanD I agree! Such a moving story- and I've read that teachers across the nation use this book to target boys that don't typically like reading- and they practically fight over it! 7y
ElizabethR0309 This book was defiantly a great book it was not what I expected but once I picked it up I couldn‘t put it down. (edited) 7y
Beths Sounds like a wonderful story. I am definitely interested in reading this book after seeing your post. Thanks for sharing. 7y
