On the heels of a family tragedy, Katie Greene must move halfway across the world. Stuck with her aunt in Shizuoka, Japan, Katie feels lost. Alone. She doesn't know the language, she can barely hold a pair of chopsticks, and she can't seem to get the hang of taking her shows off whenever she enters a building. When Katie meets aloof but gorgeous Tomohiro, the star of the school's kendo team, she is intrigued by him - and a little scared. His tough attitude seems meant to keep her at a distance, and when they're near each other, strange things happen. Pens explode. Ink drips from nowhere.

Four stars. I love the plot & the setting. Katie moves to Japan because her mom passed away. She meets one of the popular guys at school who turns out to be kami. His drawings come to life but they are dangerous. one can definitely learn about Japanese culture in this book :)

I can't tell you all enough about how much I loved this whole series. Japanese mythology set in today's Japan means you get to learn tons about the old and the new. I loved every minute of it.

TayTayTracyHarrison We choose this book for book club and I am so glad we did. A fun and interesting read. Enjoyed the multicultural aspect very much. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series and where the story goes. 8y
