Grabbed up a couple books at the library that are on my "to read" list. A part 3 and a fiction by Nic Sheff.

A Monster Calls | Patrick Ness, Siobhan Dowd

This story started as a thought by another author who died an early death and never wrote it into a story. Ness decided to give it life and finish the thought. The main character has the same nightmare every night. Or is it really happening and not a dream at all? Read this one!

Yup, I liked it. Tried her other book about apes? Disliked that one. The movie based on this book turned out ok, too.

All three of these books are great! Dystopian story of survival. Interesting to see how the characters are physically effected by the tragedy that occurs. I met this author at a book fest, she is hilarious, despite the fact that these books tackle some very dark themes!

I really like this author. Read a few years ago. I believe there are more books in this series? I will have to look them up. This was a great read!

House of Power | Patrick Carman

Great trilogy about perseverance. Quite a political book. Good one for kids to read to understand politics, classes, and how difficult it can be to play out the Hero's journey. Patrick Carman is a fantastic author to read about strong characters who go against societal norms to evoke change!

Fascinating read!!!! The power of the human body to overcome an accident. So much was learned about the brain through this account. I wonder if life would have been different for him if this happened today. His skull is on display at MIT. Add that to your bucket list!!

Once again, a solid mystery, quick read, page turner from David Bell!! Well written. You really want to get to the end to find the answer to the mystery.

I'm not going to say this book was horrible, but it could have been pushed further. Someone could write a fan fic of it, and I would probably like it better!

Book two. Also a great read. Still like the characters (that is huge) still rooting for them! In waiting for the other books to come out, I forgot about this series until now. Must get the rest and finish this series!

Had the opportunity to meet the author at a book festival, and hear her talk about this novel. I read it the next day. Quick read. Well written. Realistic characters. You will root for her brother!!

Finally!! A trilogy that is worthy of three books! Loved the main character. Realistic and strong. I would read more of this author. Well written.

The Midnight Witch | Paula Brackston

Not my favorite of her witch novels, yet still a great read. Rather than being about one, stand alone, witch, this novel brings in witch covens and the other groups that threaten witches. A war for power. Paula Brackston has three other novels I have yet to read. She is a favorite author of mine.

All of her witch books are stand alone, but her newest "Return of the Witch" brings back her original witch character, Bess. I do not recall how I found this author, but I am so glad I did!

A look at his child's addiction to meth. It is heartbreaking how many people have been changed by Nic's drug issues. It's heartbreaking and insightful! David has another book out entitled Clean, that I want to read, about why many recovery programs fail when it comes to helping addicts stay clean.

While I did like the first book, the second book was too disconnected from the first book. Perhaps it was the 10 years in between publication dates? She should have re-read her first book. IDK 😟

This is a five book set. I think I'm stuck on book 3? It's been a couple years since I put this series down. I think I will go back to it someday, but I'm not in a hurry to find out the ending.

Another trilogy that should have been one book! First book was good. Second, not so much but I stuck with it. I skimmed the third book to find out the ending, only because I needed closure. Like I was mourning the time I lost on reading this trilogy!!

Not as well written as tweak. I almost think he loses his edge when he is sober. He has two fiction books out that I want to read. I wonder how he is at writing about made up characters? I applaud his effort to stay clean. I know from reading tweak, it is a constant battle for him!

Fairy Tale Girl | Susan Branch

Currently reading this one. She went back through her diaries and put them into a three book set. She actually wrote book 3 first, then went backwards through time and wrote two prequel books. So, she says to read this one first. The type set, illustrations, and photos are all pleasing to the eye.

His books are raw and edgy. He has lived what he writes. He still does. You can find him on Facebook. His books read like he is telling you a story of people he has met in his life. And if you are friends with him in social media, then you know that is exactly what his stories are about...his life.

Characters were disturbing and unlikable. I put this book down a couple times because it was difficult to handle. Eerily relatable. Perhaps that is why I hated the characters and loved the book!
