Poem-Mobiles: Crazy Car Poems
Poem-Mobiles: Crazy Car Poems | J Patrick Lewis, Douglas Florian
1 post | 2 read | 3 to read
The U.S. Children's Poet Laureate and an award-winning children's poet join their prolific forces in this picture book of poems about cars. But they're not just any cars: there's the "Sloppy-Floppy-Nonstop-Jalopy" ("So unique there is no copy"); the Bathtub Limosine ("With hot water heating / And porcelain seating"); and the "High Heel Car." Each of the thirteen quirky, inventive poems will speak directly to the imaginations of children, as will Holmes's high-concept, detail-filled illustrations.

katyhobbs "When I am grown to man's estate, I shall be very proud and great, and tell the other girls and boys not to meddle with my toys." I still have many of Stevenson's poems memorized from my childhood. 7y
slategreyskies I enjoy Jack Prelutsky. I love Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree. Naomi Shihab Nye does several excellent poetry books for children as well, but your children may need to grow into them. I'm not sure how old your kids are. :) 7y
slategreyskies Also, here's the Silverstein one. 7y
UwannaPublishme ❤️ Silverstein! 7y
Gina This might be out of print but I still have my childhood copy of...Come Follow Me to the secret world of elves and faires and gnomes and trolls by Gyo Fujikawa. I read it so much as a child I had to duck tape the spine 7y
Peddler410 Poetry Speaks to Children -- comes with a CD of poems, some read by the poet 7y

HKGirl This is one of my favorites! 7y
HKGirl Also, the "Poetry for Young People" series is great. Each book (I believe there are 25 total) features age-appropriate selections from famous poets. There's a collection of Maya Angelou, one of Edgar Allen Poe, one of William Carlos Williams, and so on. And the illustrations are lovely! 7y
Biljana Revolting Rhymes by Roald Dahl :) 7y
