Z Was Zapped
Z Was Zapped | Chris Van Allsburg
3 posts | 7 read
A dramatic black- and- white presentation of the alphabet in which the three-time Caldecott medalist depicts a mysterious transformation of each letter. "Whimsical, sophisticated, this should appeal to a wide audience, from those amused by mayhem in an unusual context to the many fans of this uniquely creative artist." -- Kirkus Reviews, pointer

Bailedbailed

I had to stop reading this to my daughter halfway. This is way too dark for a child that is at the age of learning the alphabet. One picture showed a large knife above the letter. “The A was in an avalanche.
The B was badly bitten.
The C was cut to ribbons....
The Z was zapped”

Reviewsbylola Oh geez! My 5 yo would probably love this. She has a darker side. 😬😬 7y
Chellebearss @Reviewsbylola it would probably be appropriate for a child that age. It‘s a little dark for my 3 year old though 7y
Reviewsbylola Yeah it definitely sounds way darker than most kid‘s books I‘ve ever come across!! 7y

Grabbing XYZ books from my kid/picture book shelves may be cheating, but I love Van Allsburg's always interesting illustrations - so this adult still has him in the house 😁

BekahB I love Chris Van Allsburg's books too! I don't have kids, but I still have several of his books on my shelf. 😀 8y
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I love Chris Van Allsburg's books and illustrations. When I was young, Polar Express was my first. ❤ 8y
