I am really enjoying these stories although the repetition of information from the previous books is a bit too much, as well as too much educational information about the land, time and animals. The story gets bogged down at times with just too much extras, but the story itself is still wonderful and captivating. If I didn't love the story and characters so much the extras would ruin it and possibly cause me not to continue. 3.5🌟 #108of2018

I am really enjoying this series and the characters that Auel has created, however, this one was way too long and too full of information about the animals, land and time frame. There were pages upon pages that read like an encyclopaedia instead of a novel and I ended up skipping forward to avoid the large sections that were information and not story. The story itself is still great and I've already started the next in the series.

I've seen reviews that compare this series to Lord of the Rings, so of course I had to give it a shot! While I really liked the main character and his story, I found the end less than satisfactory. At 18 hours of audio it felt a touch long winded and for the first book in the series it didn't leave me with the urge to run out and grab the next book to find out what happens. I imagine at some point I will continue with it but no rush #94of2018 🎧

Do you ever just pick up a book and realize that while there is nothing really wrong with it, you just don't like it? This is how I felt reading this one. It has all the elements that I normally enjoy in a crime novel but I found my mind wandering while I read it and the pacing was a little slow. I requested this book from NetGalley in the hopes that it would motivate me to finally do something about all this stuff. While some of the book and the minimalist movement is not for me, some of it was incredibly helpful and motivating. Full review here http://tinyurl.com/ybfv54wh #73of2018

"A home that is filled with only the things you use and love will be a home that you love to use"

Stacy_31 We tried the minimalist thing for a while. I love the idea behind it but have found that keeping up with it is so much work. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 1y
Tamra Moving helps, a lot! We‘ve been in our house 16 years and added two children. Now that we‘re leaving it, culling was much needed - general rule of thumb was if it hadn‘t been used in a year it‘s out. There are notable exceptions of course, books for instance. 😉😆 1y
Chellebearss @Stacy_31 I just needed the initial motivation to dispose of stuff we haven‘t used in years. I think we will still have too much stuff but it‘s still better than where we were 1y

Chellebearss @Tamra I wish we had of done that before we moved to this house 3 years ago but I had a new baby and no energy. It‘s getting done now though :) 1y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled My big thing lately was taking all our DVDs and putting them in album sleeves and throwing out the cases. Freed up so much space!! 1y
SleepyDragon My problem with minimalism is that it doesn't allow for storage of things you know you will need again and/or in the future. I saved so much money holding onto most of the baby stuff and clothes from my first born, even though there's an 8 year gap in age. My friend gives me her daughter's outgrown clothes, though my daughter will not wear them for another year, etc. 1y
Chellebearss @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled that‘s a good idea! 1y
Chellebearss @NeesyBeth yes I agree that saving money by storing things would be better than the minimalism ideas. I‘m finished having babies so as my girls outgrown things I‘m getting rid of them and not storing. If I wanted more I‘d for sure store stuff. Baby items are just too expensive not to do that! 😃 (edited) 1y

This is the adventure of a very unhappy little boy that finds himself in a giant peach surrounded by some magical new friends. This was one of the first chapter books that I've read to my 4yo and she really enjoyed it! We are going to watch the movie next. #72of2018

JoScho Stacking! I need to do the same 1y
DHill Doing the same here. It feels great to get rid of things we no longer use or need. 1y

I knew that I would probably enjoy this as I had already seen a few seasons of the show and I wasn‘t disappointed. I love Sookie and Bill and I was very glad that it‘s been a while since I watched the show and couldn‘t remember all the details of the plot. I‘ll be seeking out more from this series. #70of2018 #TrueBlood

This has been one of my favourite books since I first read it in high school. After many re-reads I decided to try it for the first time on audio. I am happy to report that it is just an enjoyable on audio as it is in print! It was quite a commitment at 47 hours and 52 minutes but it was worth it! Highly recommended 5🌟#69of2018 #GARbingo

leahbird or are you just picking up the series? 1y
Chellebearss @leahbird haven‘t started the series yet but I‘d like to 😃 1y

leahbird That first one has quite a bit of violence in it. I started with the second one without realizing it was a series and I was a little surprised when I went back and read the first one. It's still good but I try to warn people. 😉 All the others are great (except the last one, I just pretend it doesn't exist). 1y
Chellebearss @leahbird like Game of Thrones level violence? I‘ m usually good with violence but thanks for the heads up! 😃 1y
leahbird @Chellebearss I've not read/watched GoT but from what I know (the reason I don't do GoT) it's similar but probably not as bad. 1y
Chellebearss @leahbird ok I should be good with that! Thanks! 😃 1y

I woke up with a mean case of the Mondays! Play along if it makes you happy 😃 1🖤 daughter has an eye infection, woke up by baby an hour too early, fruit flies!!! 2🖤 an extra large coffee in my Gryffindor mug and my favourite breakfast foods. (It‘s not working yet) 3🖤Kid free date night tomorrow and we have a gift certificate to The Keg! 4🖤 Dead Until Dark, The Stand🎧 and starting the Ash and Quill #MoodyMonday

Amabear Ug! What a terrible start to the wee&! Fruit flies are the worst! My son has a bad habit of waking up at 5am wayyyy too often. I hope your date night is wonderful! It‘s been so long since we‘ve had one of those! 1y
Chellebearss @Amabear fruit flies are the absolute worst!! And these ones seem to be impervious to my traps! We haven‘t had a date night in about 3 years so I‘m looking forward to this one!! 😃 1y
Dragon Haven‘t been to The Keg for awhile. Yum. Hope Monday improves. At least fruit flies have short lifespans 🐉 1y

Clare-Dragonfly My baby woke me up an hour too early today too! 😭 1y
Chellebearss @Dragon short life spans but they seem to be multiplying and are ignoring my traps! 😡 1y
Chellebearss @Clare-Dragonfly hope you both got a good nap! 1y
Clare-Dragonfly He did, but not me—I had to work and I‘m awful at naps. I had some tea and hope to go to bed early tonight. 1y

When I first heard of this novel I didn't think I would ever pick it up as I had it in my head that it was going to be one of those stuffy classics that I wouldn't be able to get into. I was wrong. This caught my interest from the opening line and kept my attention until the very end. Excellent and recommended. 4🌟 #68of2018 #GARbingo #greatamericanread

MelissaSue81 Interesting! Had always sounded like a stuffy classic to me too! 1y
Texreader I loved Rebecca and have probably read it 10 times. How I love so many of the books you have pictured there!!! 1y
Well-ReadNeck My absolute favorite book. I re-read it every so often and fall in love with it all over again. 1y

Jess_Franzino I‘m reading it right now. I adore classics, especially Gothic ones, but found a very slow build. However, I JUST read the part with the ball. Holy Heck, Mrs.Danvers! NOW we‘re getting somewhere! 1y
Chellebearss @MelissaSue81 it seems a bit old fashioned at first but then the pace picks up a bit and flows nicely 1y
Chellebearss @Texreader guess I saved the best for last out of the GAR 😃 1y
Chellebearss @Well-ReadNeck I‘m not big at re-reading but I did enjoy it! 1y
Chellebearss @Jess_Franzino yes, Mrs Danvers is quite a character!! 1y
