Jandy Nelson meets Friday Night Lights in this sweeping, warm, arrestingly original novel about family, poverty, and hope. Wing Jones, like everyone else in her town, has worshipped her older brother, Marcus, for as long as she can remember. Good-looking, popular, and the star of the football team, Marcus is everything his sister is not. Until the night everything changes when Marcus, drunk at the wheel after a party, kills two people and barely survives himself. With Marcus now in a coma, Wing is crushed, confused, and angry. She is tormented at school for Marcus s mistake, haunted at home by her mother and grandmothers grief. In addition to all this, Wing is scared that the bank is going to repossess her home because her family can t afford Marcus s mounting medical bills. Every night, unable to sleep, Wing finds herself sneaking out to go to the school s empty track. When Aaron, Marcus s best friend, sees her running one night, he recognizes that her speed, skill, and agility could get her spot on the track team. And better still, an opportunity at a coveted sponsorship from a major athletic gear company. Wing can t pass up the opportunity to train with her longtime crush and to help her struggling family, but can she handle being thrust out of Marcus s shadow and into the spotlight?"

The Heartbeats of Wing Jones was a really good book that I enjoyed reading a lot. It was not my favourite but it is somewhere close. This book can relate to any teenager with a problem fitting in especially with family problems. I rate this book a 9/10

Cfischbuch This is a brand new book (your the very first reader for it) so thanks for trying it out and giving it a review that makes me want to read it next. 6y

I've been great reading down my monthly to-read list in January. This one is up now. I adore the author and think this book will hit all my contemporary ya sweet spots. The cover -- not yet on my ARC but live elsewhere -- is a puddle reflection which is one of my favorite things.

BookishClaire It's been getting tons of love in England! 8y

*A full review will go live on my blog tomorrow*

Wing Jones was a stunning book that I absolutely loved. It filled me with so many emotions and I just thought is was a wonderful read. It is a book about a girl who learns who she is, what she can do, and what that means to her. It is a powerful and strong book with a diverse cast that I would highly recommend!

This was such a beautiful book. Wing was a wonderful main character surrounded by a host of great side characters. Definitely a book to read.

yayeahyeah Oh yay! I adored this one - and as you say, fab side characters. (I think her grandmothers are my favourites. :) ) 8y

Really enjoyed seeing Katie Webber chat to Our Chemical Hearts author Krystal Sutherland at Queen's Park Books! Katie let me take a photo of her Wing Jones phone case (this is the UK cover) - how cool is this?!
