Twisted
Twisted: The Girl Who Uncovered Rumpelstiltskin's Name | Bonnie M. Hennessy
5 posts | 6 read | 9 to read
The mystery of Rosamund Hodge's Crimson Bound meets the romance of every Beauty and the Beast retelling. An old tale tells the story of how a little man named Rumpelstiltskin spun straw into gold and tricked a desperate girl into trading away her baby. But that's not exactly how it happened. The real story began with a drunken father who kept throwing money away on alcohol and women, while his daughter, Aoife, ran the family farm on her own. When he gambled away everything they owned to the Duke, it was up to her to spin straw into gold to win it all back. With her wits and the help of a magical guardian, she outsmarted the Duke and saved the day. Well almost... Her guardian suddenly turned on Aoife and sent her on a quest to find his name, the clues to which were hidden deep in the woods, a moldy dungeon, and a dead woman's chamber. Her feelings for one of the men who tricked her threaten to complicate everything. Not the tale of a damsel in distress, this is the story of a tenacious, young woman who solved a mystery so great that not even the enchanted man who spun straw into gold could figure it out. Not until Aoife came along.

I really enjoyed this Rumplestiltskin retelling for #FairytaleReadingChallenge

Aoife is a headstrong girl, running her families lands. She has always been protected by a spirit in the forest, but when her families lands are gambled away in a game of cards, she enters into a bargain with this Little Man to turn straw into gold for the Duke. And as she falls for the Duke, she begins to wonder what price she truly has to pay for the Little Mans help

I LOVED this book.
The author did a stellar job at telling an amazing twisted story, while connecting the era and its issues to modern day points of view. This book was SO readable, it was a pleasure read and I forsake my book clubs to finish it. I was so caught in the story, so torn between characters, if drove me wild in the best way. So much meaning and great quotes too! I will have to read this one again at some point.

Amabear @BookaholicNatty same!! I love it so much! 6y
Valink I‘m glad you like everything!! Once you use handspun you may not want to knit or crochet with anything else again!! I won‘t be offended at all if you decide to make a different project with the yarn. I knew you crocheted, I wasn‘t sure if you also knit or not. 6y
Amabear @Valink I‘m going to have a hard time deciding! 😍 I think your right. How do you spin it? I know nothing about it 6y
Valink @Amabear I have a spinning wheel and a few drop spindles, but I pretty much exclusively spin on my wheel. (edited) 6y
Amabear @Valink it sounds romantic! 6y

My sister and I both spin our own yarn, so she texted me about this book this morning. I've obviously already downloaded it!
