The Penderwicks at Point Mouette
The Penderwicks at Point Mouette | Jeanne Birdsall
12 posts | 28 read | 3 to read
With over one million copies sold, this series of modern classics about the charming Penderwick family from National Book Award winner and New York Times bestseller Jeanne Birdsall is perfect for fans of Noel Streatfeild and Edward Eager. When summer comes around, it's off to the beach for Rosalind . . . and off to Maine with Aunt Claire for the rest of the Penderwick girls, as well as their old friend, Jeffrey. That leaves Skye as OAP (oldest available Penderwick)a terrifying notion for all, but for Skye especially. Things look good as they settle into their cozy cottage, with a rocky shore, enthusiastic seagulls, a just-right corner store, and a charming next-door neighbor. But can Skye hold it together long enough to figure out Rosalind's directions about not letting Batty explode? Will Jane's Love Survey come to a tragic conclusion after she meets the alluring Dominic? Is Battycontrary to all accepted wisdomthe only Penderwick capable of carrying a tune? And will Jeffrey be able to keep peace between the girls . . . these girls who are his second, and most heartfelt, family? It's a rollicking ride as the Penderwicks continue their unforgettable adventures in a story filled with laughs and joyful tears! From the Hardcover edition.

Forgot a picture because we finished this on vacation. Kiddo is really enjoying this series, and I‘m loving sharing them with her. This one had Skye being ridiculous over OAP anxiety, Jane being ridiculous over her first romance, and Batty and Jeffrey being their wonderful selves. Love all the other characters (Aunt Claire, Turron, Alec, Mercedes) and adventures.

A good addition to the series. The coincidence that Alex is Jeremy‘s long last father was a little too much but it was lovely to see Batty‘s musical talents emerging. And Jane was particularly ridiculous.

A summer vacation with Aunt Claire in Maine and Rosalind on vacation with Anna in New Jersey forces Skye into OAP-dom, which she is terrified to uphold. A wonderful summer caper that ends with an even more wonderful surprise!! I loved this, even if Jane, who isn't my favorite Penderwick, has a big focus. Her melodrama was a bit much for me but I love everyone else so much that I can overlook it. ❤

Mor‘s least favorite. Focused on the middle girls (11-13) growing up and less on the youngest, so a lot of it went over Mor‘s head, nothing inappropriate, he just doesn‘t get crushes and takingnon extra responsibility. But he still loves the Penderwicks (which always baffles me a bit since it‘s not at all like his usual science/fantasy type pics). #mordecaireads

We ❤️ the Penderwicks! In the third book, the family is split up for different vacations, and the action follows Skye, Jane, and Batty in Maine. These sisters are smart, loving, kind, sassy, and funny. They‘re not perfect, and that‘s why they are so loveable (I personally identify with Skye). We‘ve already started the fourth one and have the fifth one ready to go. If you and/or your kids haven‘t yet, definitely pick up this series! 👍👍👍👍

Peddler410 I read book one with my book club kids several years ago. It was not a hit with the kids. I enjoyed it but never felt compelled to continue with the series. I do have it on my list of books to read with my daughter — we‘ll see how it goes second time around (for me). 6y

I've been rereading one of my favorite children's series this year, and this is the third in the series. The Penderwicks are off on vacation! But Rosalind will be in New Jersey, and that leaves Skye as the OAP (oldest available Penderwick) as the other three girls go with their Aunt Claire to Maine. Will she be able to handle the responsibility? This vacation may just have as many adventures in store as the last one. An endearing and charming tale

First book of #24in48 complete! A delightful Penderwick adventure—a perfect light read for a readathon. Now for my Ruby‘s tuna melt and getting back into Sing, Unburied, Sing.

Clocking in at a little over 2 hours, I‘m 4 chapters and 100 pages into Sing, Unburied, Sing—and it‘s time to mix things up with the Penderwicks. #24in48

Onto the next one! #boutofbooks

smilingshelves I need to reread this series before I read the new one, and you're seriously tempting me to pull them off my shelves right now! 7y
BucklingBookshelves @smilingshelves you really should! I hardly ever tear through a series like this, but they‘re so good! I may be picking up the 5th one this week — I was going to wait til an event of hers that I‘m hoping to go to soon, but I may get impatient, especially because it isn‘t a sure thing that I‘ll be able to go 😬 7y
