"Rennie Airth is one of the best detective writers around. AndThe Death of Kings is his best book yet." The arrest of an ex-convict and his subsequent confession swiftly bring the case to a close, but in 1949, the reappearance of a jade necklace raises questions about the murder. Was the man convicted and executed the decade before truly guilty? Though happily retired from the police force, John Madden is persuaded to investigate the case afresh. I can enjoy my porch again now that temp has cooled down! I have birds singing & an occasional rooster crow.

#TBRtemptation post! Love this cover! This is the just-released 5th installment in the John Madden series. In 1938, a beautiful actress is murdered at a Kent estate. A confession brings swift justice on the gallows. In 1949, the re-appearance of a jade necklace leads to suspicions that the executed man may have been innocent or only part of a bigger plot. Madden's summoned out of retirement to Scotland Yard. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

LauraJ Guessing that's not NFL John Madden. Though it would be a hoot to read a mystery written by him. 8y

No Super Bowl in my house today I baked a chocolate cake and spent the day reading this cleverly plotted mystery from Rennie Airth. The fifth in Airth's John Madden series, this one did not disappoint.

Handmade_Redhead No football here either. Too many fun things to do. 8y
