I enjoyed this mystery and its lessons on the history (and, wow, what a history) of chocolate. I didn‘t really buy the romance, though. It didn‘t build, it just sort of happened near the end of the book. I probably will listen to the second entry in this series, The Cocoa Conspiracy, because I enjoy a good mystery and I want to hear more about the history of chocolate.🍫

I just started listening to this book and already I‘m hooked. An attempt on the life of the Prince Regent AND a lesson on the history of chocolate. I had no idea that over the millennia hot chocolate was a luxurious beverage but no one in Europe knew how to prepare chocolate to be eaten until the mid-1800s. As Mr. Spock would say, “Fascinating.”

A new author for me. It was a good book, but the bad editing was annoying..."line space here" and no proper page breaks between different scenes are not things a reader wants to come across during the flow of reading a book. I do plan to continue on to the second in the series as I enjoyed the humor and interaction between the hero and heroine as well as the plot. 4/5 ?

I am fast turning into an Andrea Penrose fan. Her mysteries are complex, and require concentration. In addition to involving chocolate, this one involves some interesting discussion of financial transactions and trade in the early 19th century. But don't let that scare you away. Another strong female lead, well drawn characters, and some interesting twists. I'm putting the next one in the series in my TBR.

robinb Sometimes I feel it's getting worse rather than better! I feel like I'm finding more issues now than ever before. 😜 7y
Clare-Dragonfly I read an article online recently that had a line in it something like [LINDA, SHOULD WE PUT IN THE LINK? IT'S A PAYWALL SO I DON'T KNOW IF WE SHOULD HAVE A NOTE.] Linda obviously didn't read it. 🙄 7y
RealBooks4ever Come on people (by people I mean editors). This one is SO obvious! 🤓 7y
Lynnsoprano @robins @Clare-Dragonfly @RealBooks4ever I have done a lot of proofing for my husband when he had published academic articles/book chapters, and this is just not acceptable. 7y
ValerieAndBooks 😳!! That is crazy. 7y
robinb I'm currently reading this one and am surprised by the number of these errors in this book, as well as no indication of page breaks where they should be. Very distracting...especially when you're reading along and abruptly change characters, locales, etc. 😜🙄😳😫 Grrrrr! 7y
Lynnsoprano @robinb I'm reading the second in the series, and it's just as bad. 😝 7y
robinb @Lynnsoprano Oh, no! I was hoping for better things! What's the deal folks (editors)??!! Are you even reading these?! 🙄☹️😩😠 7y

I have another novel I'm enjoying, plus I should be getting ready for our trip, since I still have lots to do. So why did I start this on my Kindle? Because an historical mystery that involves chocolate is irresistible 😄

Historical fiction & and a bit of romance with a chocolate side focus. Great read!
