I'm enjoying this so far, though the bits on the fly-bys are quite similar -- it must have been fascinating to watch and follow at the time, and especially exciting to work on, but it loses some of the wow when it's just words on a page.

A planetary scientist working on the Voyager mission tells her daughters that their births were based on the alignment of the planets! 😄
Extremely well written and accessible. I‘ve encountered books on space that were confusing and hard to follow. This isn‘t one of those.
“We step out of our solar system into the universe seeking only peace and friendship, to teach if we are called upon, to be taught if we are fortunate. We know full well that our planet and all it‘s inhabitants are but a small part of the immense universe that surrounds us and it is with humility and hope that we take this step.”
"We step out of our solar system into the universe seeking only peace and friendship, to teach if we are called upon, to be taught if we are fortunate." The story of Voyager 1 and 2. Just - wow....
I'm a bookish person, not a scientist. My excitement about space has included finding basic constellations, reading about Valentine Michael Smith, & watching Star Trek. But this book inspired me. Bell is a storyteller, inside observer/participant of the Voyager mission, & a passionate planetary scientist/explorer. I took notes while reading this. I looked up planets & moons. I Googled "Heliopause." I will never look at the sky the same way again.
