Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office
Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office: Unconscious Mistakes Women Make That Sabotage Their Careers | Lois P. Frankel
3 posts | 7 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
BEFORE YOU WERE TOLD TO "LEAN IN," DR. LOIS FRANKEL TOLD YOU HOW TO GET THAT CORNER OFFICE The New York Times bestseller, which for 10 years has been a must-have for women in business, is now completely revised and updated. In this new edition, internationally recognized executive coach Lois P. Frankel reveals a distinctive set of behaviors-over 130 in all-that women learn in girlhood that ultimately sabotage them as adults. She teaches you how to eliminate these unconscious mistakes that could be holding you back and offers invaluable coaching tips that can easily be incorporated into your social and business skills. The results for hundreds of thousands of women have been career opportunities they never thought possible-at every stage of their career, from entry-level to the corner office! Stop making "nice girl" errors that can become career pitfalls, such as: Mistake #13: Avoiding office politics. If you don't play the game, you can't possibly win. Mistake #21: Multi-tasking. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do it. Mistake #54: Failure to negotiate. Don't equate negotiation with confrontation. Mistake #70: Inappropriate use of social media. Once it's out there, it's hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Mistake #82: Asking permission. Children, not adults, ask for approval. Be direct, be confident.

Frankel creates a “choose your own path” in working through this text & offers many tips for women and their approach to work. More so geared toward corporate positions, much was helpful across professions. This is not an “act like a man” text, despite what some of the Goodreads reviews might tell you. Take what works for you, leave the rest. Glad I read it.

I have noticed lately that working life can be a bit more complicated than I have previously anticipated. So I decided to make use of my summer vacation and read some books that might help me. Have any of you found any good books about team leading or just something about leading? Any other books that might be good if I wanted to learn more about working in teams and handling conflicts between colleagues or internal communication in a company?

UwannaPublishme It's been a while since I read this one, but I really like the author 6y
Martta @UwannaPublishme Thank you so much! This is just perfect! 😍 I knew I could find help here. This is how I react when I'm in difficult situation: try to find books on how to solve my problems. I work in a male dominated field and sometimes I feel like I struggle more than other people in the office. I hope I can find more books to find out how to handle the situation better. 😊 6y
mhillis Also Coursera offers a course called Inspiring Leadership through Emotional Intelligence 😊 6y
Trollkonstnaren And I can borrow Thomas Eriksson's books :) 6y
