Such a tragic story. Such a good book. It is very obvious what the writer wants to drive home to the reader. Knowing the history and the effects this book has made I'm really glad I finally read this!

I'm a bit late with my 2019 recap but here it is: All the books I've read in 2019. A lot of them are work related and towards the end of the year I started using the audio books more because I got busy with school. A bit less than in 2018 but it has been a lot more eventful year and less time for reading as well.

Decided to give up with the White teeth. I just couldn't get into it in audio form. I feel like these audio books don't work so well for me. I think I need to take a break but I still have few weeks left on my Storytel order so I decided to start this. This works much better than White teeth but I'm still not loving it. The story is good though. Maybe this format is just not for me. 🤔

Tamra I am picky with audio books and sometimes have streaks where I bail on several in a row until I find one that works. Lots of variables! 4w
Martta @Tamra I've noticed that in order for audio book to work for me it has to have a clear story and clear characters otherwise I can't follow it. I usually listen on my way to work or walking and so on. I think that maybe if I could listen for longer periods of time it would get easier to listen to more complicated books as well. But so far I've liked books from authors like Grisham and Gaiman the best. 4w

I took some old books to the used book store today. I came back with these four:
-Memoir of the medium Allison DuBois (did not know she is a real person until today, I LOVE the tv series)
-Memoir of a North Korean woman
-Memoir of an ex child soldier
-Nordi noir book from Kristina Ohlsson

I'm not expecting these to be easy to read but I feel lucky that I found them! I just can't wait to get into these!📚

Started listening to this. I've noticed that it's more difficult to follow a book like this in audio form than it is with a book like John Grisham that has a simple forward moving plot. 🤔

One of my favourite series's has come to an end. I've enjoyed reading all of these. They describe such a vivid life during the 50's at London East end. The true stories of real human beings are just brutal, beautiful and breathtaking! I need to start looking for more books like this. 😊

Usual Grisham. Entertaining and interesting. There were a bit of audio trouble but it was a small nuisance. 😊

This audio book has some serious sound problems in the middle. The reader's voice cuts off and some other weird noice appears instead. First time I encountered this kind of problem. It goes on for a few minutes and then the reader returns. Hopefully I get to know how this book ends. The plot is really good. I'd hate to miss the conclusion.

I can't get enough of books like this! Such a heartbreaking true stories of people in tough life situations. I'm loving all the details of their daily lifes and the challenges they face. I learn so much reading these! For example I didn't know much about the history of tuberculosis in Europe before this. It has been such a big part of people's lifes and created so many tragedies! When you learn something new you are reading the right books. 😁

I listened this half way as an audio book but couldn't really get into it so I decided to give up. It might be a good book but it's not for me at the moment. I've noticed that lately the books I read have to fit my life in some way and this just didn't work for me now.

Listened this as an audio book and really liked it! The reader was just perfect for Marilyn Monroe's inner voice. It was nice to get an better image of her behind all the movie glamour.

I read the first part of this book but couldn't finish this without the audio book version. This didn't feel as good as the earlier books. Felt a bit more quiet even though it did have its moments. I hope the rest of the series is better.

First of my reviews that I've not yet posted to Litsy. Stardust is a nice fairytale for adults. Neil Gaiman is a good writer and his books are always entertaining. This was perfect read for me. Fairytales and fantasy always helps with stress. ❤

After the Tattooist of Auschwitz this was an obvious next step. Cilka's story was heart-breaking to listen to. What an amazing book!

Living close to the artic circle I never before this book have realized that the white nights might be an issue for some people. Interesting point of view. 🤔

My Bookbeat offer is closing soon and I wanted to listen this before it ends. The tattooist of Auschwitz left me wordless and I just had to listen this as well. Cilka's life story left me wondering after the first book I just had to find out what happened to her after Auschwitz.

Very basic nordic noir. Didn't really stand out from other Nordic thrillers that I've read. The characters were also pretty basic nordic noir characters. It was still nice to listen to. But if I'd had to choose the next nordic noir book to read it wouldn't be from this series...

Audio books are so fast to get through which is exactly what I need at this moment of my life! I felt like I needed to 'read' this book. Losing someone is a theme I've been struggling with for awhile. It was nice to listen to other people's thougths about this.

Otherwise the book wasn't really for me so I'm a bit conflicted when rating this. But I'm really happy I read it! 😁

This was just perfect and simple detective story to listen to! I've been getting to know the war time Helsinki better lately and this was set in the correct time period (few years after war). I know these characters already from my childhood and it was nice to get to know them in the book form as well. I'm used to seeing them in movies. 😊

Next up a Finnish classic. Old and pessimistic detective works on a murder case. This has been sitting on my shelf for ages and now I'm using my Bookbeat deal to go through books in audio form and decide wheter I'd like to keep them. I feel good about my plan to clean up some room for new finds. 📚 😊

If I would have read this as a traditional book I would have bailed after the first 100 pages (that's the point where I usually evaluate if I should continue with the book). As an audio book this worked better. Especially the fighting scenes gave nicely energy for my evening jogging. The story wasn't really that interesting for me but maybe I'll try the second book as well since it's set in Egypt. That might be interesting. We'll see. 🤔

The Testaments: A Novel | Margaret Atwood

When I first read The Handmaid's tale I was a bit too young. It was also some sort of bigger edition where there was a lot of extra things that made the book feel longer and slower. After reading it I wasn't sure if Margaret Atwood was for me. The Testament was a totally different experience! I really loved it! The characters and the world felt relatable. I truly recommend this. This will truly widen the world of Gilead.

I just realized that I updated many photos from last weekend's book fair but I didn't update the most important: my new finds. So here they are! Books about the witch hunts in Sweden during the middle ages, mafia in Italy, North Korea, being a doctor in war zones, world classic, ancient Finland, second world war and cults. I'm so happy with these! ❤😁

I got a discount coupong to Bookbeat from the book fair this weekend and decided that this would be my first real audio book in a decade or so. Not the easiest one to listen but so good! I'm also planning on listening the Cilka's journey after this. I usually avoid the second world war books but I decided to give this a go. Hopefully it will be fine. 🙈
