Blue Pills
Blue Pills: A Positive Love Story | Frederik Peeters
3 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
From one of Europes most celebrated young comics artists, a deeply personal story that will resonate with all of us who have chosen to love in the face of great challengesOne summer night at a house party, Fred met Cati. Though they barely spoke, he vividly remembered her gracefulness and abandon. They meet again years later, and this time their connection is instantaneous. But when things become serious, a nervous Cati tells him that she and her three-year-old son are both HIV positive. With great beauty and economy, Peeters traces the development of their intimacy and their revelatory relationship with a doctor whose affection and frankness allow them to fully realize their passionate connection. Then Catis son gets sick, bringing Fred face to face with death. It forces him to question the meaning of life, illness, and love until a Socratic dialogue with a mammoth helps him recognize that living with illness is also a gift; it has freed him to savor his life with Cati.Like the best graphic memoirs, Blue Pills puts a daunting subject into artistic and human terms in a way that is refreshingly honest and profoundly accessible. A brave and unsentimental romance, Blue Pills will resonate with anyone whose love has faced great obstacles and triumphed.

4 ⭐ Sometimes you read books you never thought you would read and that is the case with Blue Pills. Based solely on the cover, I would never have gravitated to this title, but I am glad I found it and that I have read it. The reading challenge, Booked2022 challenged you to read a book where the protagonist is HIV positive or has aids. What I love about this book is it shows a romance between someone who is HIV positive and someone who is not,

LibrarianRyan and how they change each other‘s world. This is subtitled a positive love story and it is exactly that. It never looks at the downsides. It addresses them, but it‘s not the main thing. It‘s about the relationship, in finding the good things among the scary things. This book quietly screams of hope and joy and was not what I was expecting at all. Even though it is 22 years old it‘s still entirely relevant and a fantastic read whether you need to f 1y

#MusicalNewYear Day 24: It was those #SummerNights when Fred met Cati that changed both their lives. As noted by Fats in her review: “Despite the average rating on Goodreads, I enjoyed reading this book. If anyone would ask what my favorite parts are, I would be quoting it liberally. It‘s very poignant, and it handled a delicate subject beautifully, without undermining the reality that surrounds it.” https://wp.me/pDlzr-fYm

vivastory Great choice 👍 5y
Cinfhen When I see #SummerNights all I can do is think Karaoke night 🎤😂😂 5y
