One of my favorite books growing up was The Two Princesses of Bamarre, so this was exciting to read a prequel. It didn‘t have the same draw for me and had a slow beginning but it was really fun to read the origins of objects and people that appear in Two Princesses. And the conflict between two races of people was well-woven into a YA fantasy setting.

All the magic item cameos from Two Princesses of Bamarre 😍😍 I may have to revisit Two Princesses though it messed me UP in grade school with ugly cries.

I try not to DNF books but I just couldn't get into this one.😔 I also struggled with The Two Princesses of Bamarre so I think Gail Carson Levine is just an author form my childhood that I cannot revisit as an adult reader.

I still love this cover though!

This was a pleasant enough read but I think really suffered in comparison to the author's previous works. It lacked their whimsy and charm and its characters were less fleshed out.

Curling up on this chilly Sunday with this beauty. I received this ARC way back in April but held off reading it until I read The Two Princesses of Bamarre. I love this cover! I prefer the ARC cover to the hardback edition. Hooray for strong female leads!

My #novembertbr for the #noteworthynovember challenge by @Jess7. One Dark Throne is being carried over from October. Also, Tabula Rasa has been on my shelf for almost 3 years and I am way overdue for catching up on the Gaius Ruso mystery series. Hoping to also get to The Lost Kingdom of Bamarre this month because I won the ARC back in May and still have yet to read it....This post is full of TBR shame. 😅

My sister and I loved The Two Princesses of Bamarre growing up, so when I saw this ARC at work I had to grab it. Trying to finish it this weekend and send it on to her. Here's hoping it's as magical as the first!
