Quick post on this wonderful B about John Newbery. With the latest book for 2018 having been announced on Monday, knowing where this award came from and the influence this particular gentlemen had on children‘s literature, is powerful. I will bring this book back to class in two weeks. We really were curious about how the Caldecott Medal got its name and this book does a pretty good job introducing readers to the man who played a key role in creating the genre of children's literature. It's hard to imagine a time when books for young readers didn't exist because they thought it was a bad idea.
