I enjoyed this book but thought it was a lot of information to take in at one time. It was challenging to read in some cases because I work as a data scientist and I have to wonder if anything I have created in the last three years has contributed to these new weapons. This is an important read for anyone conducting research, or data collection.

Jacqueline Woodson never disappoints with her storytelling and beautiful narration. While this audiobook has a full cast. She narrates parts that are done in third person.

This book was a beautiful story of what families go through in order to become a family. With the birth of Melody, two families lives are interwoven as Melody grows and turns 16. This story is just beautiful, magnificent marvelous. Well done.

This was an informative read on cultural appropriation by white people who ask to use black culture it's language music, anger and businesses to benefit personally. It gave excellent examples of what this looks like in today's world and uses household names that most people know of and can relate to.

Points have been counted for tonight! #NFNov I read Chapter 10 on my way to work today. It discussed food and the multiple ways in which white people appropriate from different cultures in order to become famous chefs.

Amiable Hi, Rachel! Can you add my posts from two days ago to my tally, too? 6d
Crimson613 IDK if this is related but the other day I looked up authentic American food and there was a video I watched. It had five dishes and the fifth one was Mexican food and I was just like what the heck. You just called it *Mexican* food but are saying its authentic American food??? 🙃 4d
rsteve388 @amiable I believe I have added your points I commented on your posts did I miss any? 4d
rsteve388 @Crimson613 a lot of Americans get confused about Mexican food. What they think is Mexican is really TexMex and that is an American blend of cultures. 4d

So I am reading the tagged book during work and it is a fascinating look at why and how white people benfit from cultural appropriation.

But that's not what this post is about. It's about Do Men Read? It seems to me that the reading community is about 90% women so I googled: Do Men Read? And found this 2007 article: https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=14175229

lele1432 I've always found this interesting and wondered the reason behind the reading disparity between men and women. It's always nice when I see men engaged in literature and bookish culture. Sometimes it does feel overwhelming female. 1w
Chrissyreadit I find this interesting because there were many books and series geared toward boys (perhaps I should say white male readers because diversity is newer but adventure stories are not) I wonder if it has to do with time and occupations as well? My son is a voracious reader, as is my husband - my husband also loves comics. For generations women were only published under male pseudonym too. Now I‘m curious. 1w

What an inspirational and moving memoir about growing up on a society as a black gay man, who has to navigate being gay and Black. It was a heartfelt story that really makes you think and pause about what it's like for others who are different then you.

Easy delightful listen, heart wrenching at times with moments of violence (CW) and Racism (CW) this story was a great addition to my #NFNov list

This was an amazing autobiography of the author and their journey in their life to becoming a writer. What I loved best about this book was how the author choose to write her story. The book isn't written in standard prose it is written in a series of poems that talk about different aspects of her life. Just magnificent.

This book should come with a trigger warning. It has homelessness and molestation and was really hard to listen to. A beautiful story about resilience and the difficulty it takes to keep hope in times of dire needs.

This story is labeled as a thriller psychological suspense and while it had those components my initial feeling of the story is that what makes it scary is that the author describes homelessness so accurately. #Teamslaughter

The Fire Next Time | James Baldwin

This is vital reading to any white person who wishes to do work in anti racism space. James Baldwin's critique of racism in the US really starts with his own understanding of Christianity and he places the blame for the continued treatment of POC at the feet of American Christianity. He also explores how Islam is seen as a haven't for Black people and what it offers them, a place to question white Christianity.

Scochrane26 I‘m going to recommend this to my pastor. She wants to do some discussions about relevant topics. We read a lot of the same books, & I‘ve been wanting to read something by Baldwin. 4w

This was a great listen. I didn't like the British accent for the narrator for a story that took place in the US.. it felt weird. But once you get over that, the story is really interesting. The author does a good job of making Keri Locke seem very personable.. she makes bug mistakes and doesn't have her life together. She seems relatable.

I am going to listen to the whole series I think.
