😬😬 23 is obviously too young to write a reflective memoir, even for an Olympic athlete, so this is more of a training memoir. Chen goes through his progress from singles to quads, how he trained, and his thoughts after each meet. If you love competitive figure skating or are a former/current skater yourself, you‘ll probably love this. But if you‘re me and never got past skating backwards and only tune in every four years, this may be too dry.

Megabooks @Cinfhen I think H would LOVE this, but for you, it‘s definitely a #BorrowNotBuy. #NFNov @Ann_Reads 2y
Megabooks This is just a day of bails! 2y
Cinfhen Yeah, this was EXACTLY my initial thought - thanks for confirming 😘 I did listen and LOVE this skating memoir 2y

BarbaraBB Maybe a nice read for your niece @cinfhen ! 2y
Cinfhen H knows Nathan, they aren‘t friends but they‘ve crossed paths several times and she just thought it was hilarious that he was “writing” a memoir - @BarbaraBB 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB it‘s interesting because he is incredibly overscheduled!! When he was a novice, he was still taking ballet and competing in gymnastics and hockey too. Just crazy. 🤯🤯 I‘m curious what gossip H has… 😏 I loved Adam‘s memoir too. Waaayyy more personality than this!! 2y
sarahbarnes The idea of writing a memoir at 23 makes me giggle a bit. 😁 2y
vlwelser I was a skater and this would be a pass for me. But that Adam one is on my TBR. 2y
Megabooks @sarahbarnes I‘ve seen athletes write fluffy YA ones like this one from Simone Biles, but it‘s a lot to write an adult one when you‘re well…barely an adult. 2y
Megabooks @vlwelser Adam‘s is heartwarming and hilarious. Definitely give it a read! 2y

This was 💯 fascinating! Smith looks at the history of books from the macabre (books bound in human skin) to the totemic (books as talismans). She investigates the history of censorship, book burning, and challenges the Gutenberg as the first printer of books. I particularly liked the chapters on books as gifts and when she discussed various editions of books and how we ascribe value to them. She provides excellent examples for each point. #NFNov

Cinfhen I like the title too!!! 2y

Book Report Beagle | Pamela A Klawitter

Two-week #BookReport this weekend! Still finding my groove, but I‘m really enjoying #NFNov. Tracers, about finding the thieves and bad actors in crypto currency, is one I loved and will reread with dad. Border was 💯 worth the investment! Wilderwomen is a worthy sophomore effort from Lang. I just love Rainbow. She can melt my old, stony heart. The Perry was the only one I didn‘t care for. Just didn‘t hit right.

Megabooks Also, I‘m using Demon Copperhead for my choose your own prompt for #Booked2022 (a book set in a city where I‘ve lived - Knoxville) @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @alisiakae 2y
Cinfhen Im enjoying #NFNov too!!! Great idea for create your own prompt - what did u think of 2y
Cinfhen Also im totally stacking the two books you mentioned as favs 🤓 2y

Megabooks @Cinfhen it was good! Probably longer than it needed to be but I enjoyed it! Tracers and The Border? Both were excellent!! 2y
sarahbarnes I almost picked up Post-Traumatic awhile back at the library but ended up leaving it. What did you think? 2y
Megabooks @sarahbarnes I liked it, but it was quite heavy. https://www.litsy.com/web/post/2504226 2y
sarahbarnes Oof. Yes I see that now. 2y

I‘ve read the research that shows if you can move/exercise in the hospital, it is associated with better health outcomes. So every 2-3 hours, I‘d walk a lap or two of the floor while listening to this. And Kidd‘s story is remarkable! She survived two husbands and ran a store to prevent one from bankruptcy in colonial Manhattan. Later, she married Captain Kidd for love and stood by him as he faced trial for piracy. Fascinating, short bio. #NFNov

Chelsea.Poole So glad you were able to get up and about! 💪 2y
Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole me too! It really helped mentally as well to get out of the room some. 2y
Cinfhen Sounds fascinating!!! And I‘m glad you had a good audio to keep you company 😘 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen me too!! 2y

I had been wanting to try a last interview edition for awhile, and I was really impressed with how well the editors captured, in just a few interviews, the arc of Bourdain‘s public life. From his early boys-club attitude and first travels to the changes his daughter‘s birth and years of travel made to his obsession with Asia and involvement in the Me Too movement. It‘s sad that his life ended so abruptly, but I‘m glad to have read this. #NFNov

actualdisneyprincess I‘ve had it on my shelf since it was released, and I just can‘t bring myself to do it yet. I loved him so much. 😭 2y
Megabooks @actualdisneyprincess he was truly one-of-a-kind! 2y
AnnR A really thoughtful review, @Megabooks. 2y

Cinfhen Did you find it had a lot of overlap from this one 2y
Megabooks @Ann_Reads thank you 💜 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen Bourdain is his life in other people‘s words, and this is his life in his own. So I‘d have to say no real overlap. 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen and moreover his life represented in small moments. Really interesting way of looking at him. 2y
Cinfhen Thanks for that good insight. I think I‘ll pick it up if I can find it at a good price.I‘m not a huge fan so it‘s not a top priority. 2y

This was funny and heartwarming and tedious at the same time. Right after the fall of the USSR, Rogoff was hired to produce Sesame Street in Russia, but finding partners, actors, writers, and even a network is no easy task in a ever-changing and even dangerous landscape. At times I didn‘t appreciate all the details, but the arc of the story and major players were interesting enough to keep me engaged. #NFNov

Cinfhen Sounds fun 😃but a #BorrowNotBuy 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I‘d agree with that! 2y
monalyisha Ha! Look at that! You settled on the same adjective as I did; “tedious” is the word, for sure. Validating to see it elsewhere. 6mo
Megabooks @monalyisha yes, I felt some details might‘ve been better omitted but I appreciate the foundation she built to nurture the rest of the book. 6mo

Finding Me: A Memoir | Viola Davis

This book reminded me of my fav quote by our late president Abdul Kalam sir, “if you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun”. It is brutally honest memoir. It tells the story of actual suffering & burning behind the glittering life of the Actress. motivating & inspiring. Of course, I enjoyed the #audio #memoir 4.5⭐️

South Korean author Sehee taps into universal feelings in this book about her experiences in therapy for depression and anxiety. This memoir has been translated into many languages and was just released in English this month. The majority of the book is transcripts of her work with her therapist. Anyone who has been in therapy will likely find a familiar ring to Sehee‘s worries and problems and her therapist‘s insights about them. #NFNov

Megabooks I think what I found coolest about this book was how similar and relatable her problems were even cross-culturally. 👍🏻 2y
AnnR Great review! Just out of curiosity. I had to find a video explaining how to make tteokbokki. 🙂 2y
RowReads1 I just put this on my list yesterday. 2y

Megabooks @Ann_Reads it is totally not how I conceived of rice cakes. I follow a lot of recipe accounts on Instagram, and that‘s where I first saw how different they are from American rice cakes. I‘ve never tried them, but they look yummy! 2y
Megabooks @RowReads1 I hope you enjoy it! 2y
sarahbarnes Sounds very relatable. 2y
BarbaraBB It sounds good and important and I love Korean ricecakes! (edited) 2y
batsy Glad to see your positive review! I've been very curious about this one. 2y

Fatland does such a wonderful job of combining travelogue and history, and I enjoyed this every bit as much as Sovietstan. It helped me understand struggles between Russia and its neighbors in terms of history, geography, and ethnicity. She traveled to each of the countries that border Russia from North Korea in the east to Norway in the west, including some breakaway republics like Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. Highly recommend! #NFNov

AnnR Good review! Adding that one to my nonfiction list. 🙂 2y
jlhammar Cool photo and great review! 2y
Megabooks @jlhammar thanks! We had a big storm over the weekend, so I had to snap a pic of all the branches I collected. 2y

Megabooks @Ann_Reads I really enjoyed her other book that has been translated as well. Plus someone mentioned, I think it was you Jamie @jlhammar , that she has a new one coming out as well. Other one currently published ➡️ 2y
Cinfhen I enjoyed Sovietistan - she‘s a good writer and I appreciate her thoughts on the places she visits. 2y
AnnR @Megabooks Thank you for all that extra information. Also, I never would have thought to take a pic of my book on collected branches. Really cool, except the big storm aspect, that caused all the branches to fall. 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen 💯 agree and thank you for finding the new one! 2y
Megabooks @Ann_Reads thanks! Our maple is a tough old tree that has withstood a lot of storms. We are lucky to have her! 2y
Megabooks @Ann_Reads knock on wood that it withstands more 😉 2y
BarbaraBB Great review and Donetsk has been all over the news lately, I‘d love to lean more about it. Stacked! 2y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB her trip to Donetsk was one of the most interesting parts. I think you‘ll really like this! 2y
