I read the Beatrice Zinker this summer as part of a reading conference #campreadalot #tdscampread18. I absolutley loved it, so when the equal came out I knew I had to read it.
I absolutely love Beatrice's personality, and how she tries so hard to not get in trouble at school.
I would recommend both of these books as read aloud for Kindergarten - 3rd or 4th graders.

A young Indian American woman has lived years without answers to questions about the family and life her mother left behind in India, but when she finds a pashmina in an old suitcase, answers begin finding her and she‘s not sure she‘s ready to know it all. The different uses of bright colors and muted colors in the illustrations were fantastic. I also appreciated the glossary in the back of the book. #tdscampread18 #ReadingEmpowers #graphicnovel

This would be a great multi-generational common read for a community. A simple but complex story of finding common ground in a new place. #BeInspiredBooks #tdscampread18

I went through this book first and just looked at the illustrations. Then I went back and read the story several times. Different ages of children will be able to understand exactly what they need from this story. And it is definitely one to reread throughout the school years.
