In my dual quests to find more cheerful superheroes and more female superheroes, Starfire is a nigh-actual ray of sunshine that I will happily read more about. She does not hesitate to kick ass, but she's also happy to hug and I love that. Yes, her body/male gaze is front and centre, but there is something about how she refuses to be self conscious about/obligated by the attention that is reassuring even if part of that is her naivete.

This series about a young alien woman who moves to Key West to experience "normal life" thoroughly charmed me. Kori's SO willing to love things, and she forges strong friendships with the people who help her adjust to everyday life among non-superpowered humans. I got a big kick out of how literally she takes everyone's turns of phrase, too.

A bonus: you don't need to know anything about the wider DC Universe to enjoy this. It stands alone.

Are outdoor showers as common in Florida as this comics leads me to believe? Because I kind of love the idea of bathing in nature.

I give this 3/5 ⭐️Its ok. I'm not sure how I feel about the characterization of Starfire in this series; it's written as if she doesn't have any flaws other than being naive, but she's only naive because she's not from this planet. I also noticed some slut shaming in some parts. I'm hoping the second volume is better

I may have snorted my tea when I read this. I'm not sure how I'm feeling about Starfire. In my previous relationship I wasn't allowed to read D.C. Comics because he was a Marvel fanboy (to each their own) so I may have gone a bit overzealous and bought a bunch of D.C. Comics. 😂
