Lois the Witch: And Other Tales | 
pickThis story is set in 1691 and it was inspired about what happened during the Salem witch hunt. It is a sad story but so well described how dangerous, terrible was this collective hysteria.
Slow read to me t due to the writing style but it was so interesting and the story motivates to seek more information about this period of time.

pickI very much enjoyed this novella of the Salem witch trials. Written in the 19th century about events of the 17th century, Gaskell's account is not lurid, rather it is level-headed and historically quite accurate. While Lois's story is clearly fictional, Gaskell did her research as the book hews closely to actual events.
I'm going to get around to reading Gaskell's full-length novels soon! #BookishLiesITellMyself
pickThe first of my completed books for #Victober, more of a novella but still counts. I quite liked this, it was a very moody and dark read. It gave a really intense feeling of otherness to the setting of Salem that helped enforce Lois's situation. It also did a good job of showing how vulnerable a woman alone might have been there.
