The Lost Salt Gift of Blood
The Lost Salt Gift of Blood | Alistair MacLeod
2 posts | 2 read | 7 to read
The stories of The Lost Salt Gift of Blood are remarkably simple a family is drawn together by shared and separate losses, a childs reality conflicts with his parents memories, a young man struggles to come to terms with the loss of his father. Yet each piece of writing in this critically acclaimed collection is infused with a powerful life of its own, a precision of language and a scrupulous fidelity to the reality of time and place, of sea and Maritime farm. Focusing on the complexities and abiding mysteries at the heart of human relationships, the seven stories of The Lost Salt Gift of Blood map the close bonds and impassable chasms that lie between man and woman, parent and child. From the Paperback edition.

#7books7days Day 2
A collection of Atlantic Canadian short stories that transformed my understanding of home.

Have you been tagged yet @Suet624 ? Feel like playing?

Suet624 Thank you for thinking of me. I become paralyzed when asked to think of my 7. However, books have been popping up slowly over the past few weeks in my mind and that might allow me to eventually post something. 😂 5y
merelybookish @Suet624 I understand! No pressure. 😃 5y

Facebook reminded me today that Alistair MacLeod died three years ago. His short stories, set mostly in rural Cape Breton, Nova Scotia were a revelation to me when I first read them in a college class. They helped me understand the beauty and struggle of being from a part of the world that is trying to survive but already feels left behind.
