Hello everyone. This is Murdo, Helene's husband. It is with great sadness that I must inform you that Helene, my beloved wife and friend of nearly 20 years, passed away on Friday August 10, 2018 from her cancer.

I've always liked Wally Lamb, and this book didn't disappoint. I liked the main story and the book would have been much shorter if he'd stayed with that. There was a background historical ancestor narrative that frankly bored me so I skimmed most of that (gasp) so it made getting through a 700+ page book easier. Overall a pick :)

This book is getting a so-so because there's a moose on the cover, otherwise it would be a pan. I hoped for an endearing story about this guy and his moose but no. Yep there's a moose, orphaned on page 1 by the totally unlikeable narrator. It's a rambling tale about a self absorbed dude living in the woods, avoiding life & exploiting all people/situations. Was hoping it would continue till the moose hit puberty and stomped him. ...lol #ilovemoose

Having two nights escape and looking forward to attacking the tbr. Thought I'd start with mindless...BAM. Agatha never disappoints. This is prob my fav so far but I've only read five. Onwards #cozymystery #readingismyrelaxation

I know this is not a popular opinion but this is a so -so for me. I liked the structure of the writing but find new mystery writers leave either too many or not enough breadcrumbs and stop with an ambiguous ending. There's also a lot of God-speak in this book and I'm flamingly unreligious so that was a turn off. She nailed the relationships on one street in a small town though and the 10 yr old girls were endearing..the adults..not so much. 3🌟

From a Canadian who is not obsessed with hockey, but watches during the Olympics and the Stanley Cup playoffs....loved this book more for it's portrayal of a small town and it's reaction to a crisis and events they hope will "put their town on the map". I grew up in a place just like this. Great writing/translation as usual. Must read ALL THE Beckman books! 4.5?

This one gives an intimate look into a traditional post-Taliban Afghan family. There's a bit about books, but more about the bookseller. It taught me that I'd last about 1 min as a woman in a traditional Afghan family as I wouldn't take kindly to the treatment of women and would prob punch most men in this book in the head...including the bookseller. #notyourbiatch #respectmeorbitemedude

Read this in 2 sittings. Tis a must read about the killing of an unarmed black youth at the hands of police and the afternath. Talented writer. Can't wait to see what she does next.

Finally dove into this short read. Liked it a lot, very touching. Older man who reads world news to remote communities post confederate war transports 10 year old girl (stolen as a child by Kiowa raiders) through hostile territory to return her to relatives. Enjoy!

Just finished this LGBTQ romance/family saga. Great story and shows that we are more alike than we are different. It reminded me of why I don't normally read romance as some of the dialogue gets sappier (is that a word?) than I like and I'm not into detailed sex scenes no matter who the participants are,maybe I haven't read someone who does them well? Great diverse read a nd would love a sequel to know how everyone turned out. #LGBTQ #diversebooks

I'm giving this one a so-so. Good premise and supposed to reveal startling family secrets... but the hints given aren't so subtle and the unveiling was rather predictable. I know her first book Standing Still was a bestseller so I may give that one a shot.

Just finished this as an audiobook. Vintage Dan Brown with lots of detail and a big rush to save the world. Really liked this one with it's references to Dante's Inferno and an interesting look at the ethics of human population control considering our rapid overpopulation of this lovely planet. 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5
