Cape Breton, part of Nova Scotia, is not typically what comes to mind for #laislabonita, although it is very beautiful in a cold, rocky, rugged, soaring kind of way.
The stories in this collection are set there. MacLeod left as a young man, but Cape Breton haunted his imagination. I'm not a "Caper" but these stories capture life in Atlantic Canada. They amazed me when I read them as an undergrad. I still think about them.

A beautiful representation of the people and place of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I re-read these every year. 😍
Another serendipitous book/bookmark pairing 👍
These stories are well written and have a very strong sense of place (mainly Cape Breton). That said, they can get repetitive if you read too many in one sitting, and at least one talks about killing animals (in a farm context). And a few talk about sex in a potentially disturbing way. But if you like short stories or Canlit, this may be of interest.

#bookandbreakfast, vacation edition. I love when the hotel has a waffle maker...although I always get my BF to operate it for me 😜
Island is one of the books I hope to take with me on vacation this month. It and Dan Jones's The Hollow Crown are my most anticipated books for May.

This is a lovely collection of absolutely beautifully told stories.
