Mehso-so

Library copy, 1967 edition, containing Usher, The Black Cat, Ms. Found in a Bottle, Three Sundays in a Week, and The Oval Portrait. I thought I‘d read the first before but guess I was mistaken. Usher could have been creepier, Cat was awful (painful; animal cruelty) but well done, Ms. was meh, Three Sundays was clever but unexpected, and the Portrait was pretty good but reminded me of something else.

One of Edgar Allan Poe‘s biggest fears was being buried alive, which is probably wrote so many stories where this was a theme. At the Poe Museum in Richmond, VA they have a coffin you can step into in order to get a sense of what it may have felt like to wake up in a coffin after being mistaken for dead. Of course I had to experience it myself.
