The Black Donnellys by Thomas P. Kelley, first published in1954, has became one of Canada's all time best-sellers. A classic account of how a family used brute force to brawl, steal, burn and murder their way into the history books.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for entertainment, ⭐️ for unbiased presentation of facts. You know immediately, that Kelley is not a fan of the Donnelly‘s. Each chapter is filled with the brutality of this family, and the town that did no wrong. Each chapter starts with a part of a song about how horrible they were. And maybe they were, but it was at one point that I was wondering if the Donnelly brothers were going to sprout horns. And in this book? They almost did.

Kinniska I‘m halfway through this book, and your description is perfect. I try to keep in mind that this was written in 1953, and clearly sounds like a transcription of a guy sitting in a pub, spinning yarns. 2mo
StellaDz @Kinniska I love reading about the Black Donnelly‘s and I have to say that this was probably the least impartial telling of what happened. And yeah, that imagery is perfect. Kelley just spinning wild tales to entertain. 4w

I like choosing weird monthly themes when I can, and while February is the month of love (and I‘ll throw in some 80‘s Sandra Brown books, as also pictured), I‘m focusing on my collection of Black Donnelly books. The anniversary is tomorrow.

I might throw in a re-read of Attack on Titan.

Just some light reading about murders in and around my home town spanning from the 19th to the 20th centuries... Reading these is slightly terrifying considering I recognize some of the locations and because its not fiction...#TeamSlaughter #scarathalon #murdercity #truecrime
