I think the first half was more laugh-out-loud-while-listening funnier than the latter half, but that‘s okay. I‘m certain this book was so enjoyable because I listened to Lewis Black read it himself with all his anger and swears. I did not find it offensive at all and found myself nodding in agreement much of the time. He is so self-effacing, it‘s hard to be upset. His philosophical musings during the Christmas season as a Jew were fantastic.
“We [America] were the beacon of freedom shining out there for all to see. We‘ve got freedom alright, but we still don‘t know what to make of it. We like to talk about how good it is, but in the end, it scares us, because we aren‘t adult enough to handle it.”
Lewis Black is the best. This quote is particularly fitting for this year. Freedom is not the same as anarchy, which is the way in which a lot of freedom-loving folks seem to act right now.
Oh Lewis Black. Your angry Jewish man comedic commentary isn‘t for everyone. Luckily, I mostly enjoyed your thoughts on Christmas, traditions, food, presents, friends and family. A few bits were a bit much, but still interesting.
