Plumed Serpent | D H Lawrence

The story of a European woman's self-annihilating plunge into the intrigues, passions, and pagan rituals of Mexico. Lawrence's mesmerizing and unsettling 1926 novel is his great work of the political imagination.

Let's be honest...I don't need more books. Seriously, I have more than enough. But when I saw that a library (with a good selection last year) had a sale today, I had to go. Coronavirus be damned! I was rewarded with my very first Penguin Book with the classic orange cover...for only $1. I feel like a cat burglar! Now, I just hope I stay healthy.

AmyG I‘m reading Girl Waits With Gun ...really enjoying it. 5y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @AmyG I saw it pop up here a few times and it really caught my attention when someone mentioned the sisters are Jersey Girls. When I saw it on that library table I had to have it. 5y
AmyG The atory takes place in Northern NJ. Passaic and Bergen County. 5y

Pickpick

Slow going in the bits describing the pseudo-Aztec cult, but good on Lawrence's themes of colonialism and gender politics and great descriptive passages.
