When Theodore Davenport decides to switch his mundane job for a career, he walks into Holden House Publishing with enthusiasm and determination to succeed. As he settles into his new role, makes new friends, and dreams of making it to the top, everything is going to plan. Until he meets James Holden, CEO of Holden House. James Holden hasn't been able to stop thinking about his encounter with the timid man he met in a club bathroom last week, and when he discovers the one haunting his dreams is an employee, he can't seem to stop himself from pursuing him. Just a little fun - that's what James tells himself. He can't afford to care for someone who can never reciprocate, not once they find out who he really is. James believes nobody deserves the burden of being attached to him. He's a complicated man. Damaged. Difficult. Demanding. Broken. Is Theodore strong enough to confront James' demons? More importantly, is James? (M/M romance. Not suitable for readers under 18 years of age due to language and sexual content. ***Please note*** This book contains scenes of self harm, mental illness and suicidal ideation which may be uncomfortable for some readers.)

A story about a man struggling with bipolar disorder. It was a heavy read but oh so powerful. It felt so validating to read some of my thoughts in someone else‘s words, though my struggles with depression weren‘t as intense. I cried so many times. But it also made me feel grateful that I‘m making my way to the other side and hopeful because the characters made it too. Highly recommend!
TW: depression, self harm, suicide attempts.

A difficult subject handled sensitively and realistically. Heartbreaking to read but also hopeful and funny and warm. I think the Manchester setting and the emphasis on family helps, as well as the alternating first person narrative. Good side characters too, particularly Theo's lesbian best friend.

I really thought I'd be disappointed at the second reading but I enjoyed it even more than the 1st time? It was actually one of my top 5 in 2017. N°2.

Love, family, & friend's support are such powerful things when we think we are sinking. This book pictures it perfectly.
Life & love are not perfect but it makes beautiful things. And we have to make up for the bad moment with the best we've had.

TRIGGERS ALERT
Self harm, mental illness & suicide.
