In the midst of a devastating epidemic, how far will a desperate mother go to keep her loved ones safe? There is a deadly virus spreading around the world. At first it is a distant alarm bell in the background of Hannah's comfortable suburban life. Then suddenly, it has arrived on the doorstep. The virus traps Hannah, her husband, and their young sons in their city, then their neighborhood, and finally their own home. As a formerly idyllic backyard and quiet street become battlefields, fear and compassion collide. But what happens when their water supply is cut, and then the power, and the food supply dwindles? Chilling and suspenseful, at once deeply personal and terrifying in its implications, BEFORE THIS IS OVER invites us to imagine what a family must do to survive when pushed to the extreme.

Thinking of reading some plague books in March to commemorate 2 years of pandemic 😷

Is that crazy?
I have the bottom 3, Before This Is Over has been on my shelf a while. Ella, The Slayer was free on audible and it‘s a Cinderella retelling with the Spanish Flu and zombies somehow.

This was a tough read, not because it wasn‘t a good story but because it made me feel on edge almost the whole time... what would I do if I was in this situation? Could I protect my kids? Oh Lordy, I hope this never happens!! It ends on a positive note, but you can‘t help but wonder if they‘re really safe!

I actually started this last week when I left the Anna Kendrick book at home and had no lunchtime reading material. Thank goodness I work in a library!!!! It‘s been ages since I‘ve actually browsed for a book, I usually have millions of reservations waiting for me. I‘m only a little way in, but feel the impending nerves kicking in while she‘s talking about the manba virus... will the family be okay?

Pickpick

Amanda Hickie's debut novel mixes pandemic apocalypse with domestic drama to solid effect, creating a suffocating sense of claustrophobia and fear as Hannah is forced into impossible decisions, creating emotional conflict with the people she's trying to protect at the same time as she searches desperately for information and hope from the outside world.

This book made me think. Hannah wants to keep her family safe during an epidemic. The lengths she goes to is extraordinary. As supplies and services run out or are turned off so she and her husband have to work harder. An interesting book centred around one family's survival through the epidemic
