The Why Are You Here Cafe
The Why Are You Here Cafe: A New Way of Finding Meaning in Your Life and Your Work | John P. Strelecky
Low on petrol after taking a long detour on his road trip, John finds a small caf, the only establishment in a remote area that appears to be in the middle of nowhere. Despite his intention only to refuel and be on his way, he finds himself sitting at one of the caf's comfortable booths, facing a platter of food and three questions on the menu: Why Are You Here? Do You Fear Death? Are You Fulfilled? With these questions to ponder, and with the guidance of his waitress, Casey, the owner/cook, Mike, and fellow patron Anne, John embarks on a journey of self-discovery that takes him from the executive suites of the advertising world to the sandy beaches of tropical islands. A Jonathan Livingston Seagull for the 21st century, The Why Are You Here Caf offers readers much food-for-thought and a new and original way to see themselves and the world around them.

A book I wouldn't have read if I wouldn't have gotten it as a gift. I'm not really one for those philosophical stories where one author tells you stuff thousands before already did. But one never knows, right?

So I gave it a try.

And got what I expected. Stories that have already been told a thousand times and often better than they way they're presented here. But it's a cute idea and a lovely idea for people new to philosophy.

In two words: Ok, boomer.😅
This is written from a place of immense privilege and 'why are you here?' becomes a very dark question when you haven't won the place-of-birth lottery.
The sarcasm about having enough money for retirement made me especially angry. There is a fine line between how much do you really need and being unable to afford a roof over your head.
Also all sorts of epiphanies seem to happen on expensive holidays abroad.🤔

A German Blinkist audio. I liked the 3 questions that it starts with, but if you take into account that I listened to it yesterday afternoon and already have forgotten about everything but those questions, you can guess that I was not very impressed. Maybe I will re-listen to it but, honestly, I think, it just provided kind of every day knowledge to me and that‘s why I couldn‘t relate too much.

Come-read-with-me The picture looks yummy! 4y
Buechersuechtling @Come-read-with-me Now that you say it … But I liked the picture of that one https://bit.ly/3qNeNQp better. 🤷🏽‍♀️😊 4y
