The Ones That Disappeared
The Ones That Disappeared | Zana Fraillon
1 post | 1 read | 3 to read
Around the world, millions of people - including many children - are victims of human trafficking. These modern-day slaves often go unseen even in our own cities and towns, their voices silent and their stories untold. In this incredible book, Zana Fraillon imagines the story of three such children, Esra, Miran and Isa. The result is powerful, heartbreaking and unforgettable. This is a SKELLIG for this generation; beautiful, magical and with Zana Fraillon's incredible talent for combining important global issues with extraordinary storytelling.

A #preview story about child trafficking. How sad can it be? Gah. Here I go. #julyrelease #zanafraillon #childrensliterature #loveozya

Missusb I am done. Had to stop often, sniffle into tissues, and skim some of it, but I got through. Sort of. I am not sure 🤔 what kid is going to (want to?) read this... it's so depressing. It's so heart-wrenching. It's so sad. And there's the other matter - it's infused with magic realism elements so it's a bit difficult to figure out what's actually real. Is there ultimate hope? Look I am not sure. Are these kids alive at the end? Hmm, maybe? 7y
Missusb Cont... so I can't give this pick. I have to say so-so. Because if subject matter makes it hard for me to read carefully and enjoyably, so that I am not even sure what's happening, well, surely that is not a successful novel... but it could be just my sensitivity to this type of harrowing story...
