The Beloved Hope Chest | Amy Clipston
2 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
In the final installment of the Amish Heirloom series, the Fisher sisters learn the mystery behind their parents marriageand about the sibling who has never been spoken of. Mattie Fishers three daughters know that shes been keeping a secret from them. With each item pulled from the beloved family hope chest, theyve discovered a new clue about their mothers past. But theres a reason Mattie has been keeping her history hidden, and shes not sure shes ready to reopen old wounds. Will dredging up the past change the way her children view her? Or her marriage to their father? And can she handle the pain of revisiting the memories that preceded the last few happy decades? Matties story is one of grief and learning to love again. But like the best things preserved in a hope chest, it's a story of love and redemption born out of heartacheand it's past time to share it.

Is anyone here on Litsy into #Amish lit? Being in eastern Pennsylvania, it's a huuuuge sub-genre in this region. We have shelves and shelves of it 👍🏻. #LitsyLovesLibraries

CouronneDhiver I've moved on now, but last year, I read probably 50 in a row. My husband wondered why because "they always end the same" (fall in love and get married) ? 7y
WarpedSweetness I use to live in NEPA, and I remember seeing these books all the time, especially at the libraries. 7y
LibrarianJen We get a few in our collection each month even though we are far from Amish country. My old circ supervisor said it's because "some people don't like smut in their romance." ? 7y

sara.the.librarian Representing a MD Eastern Shore library we have quite a few shelves of what we affectionately refer to as "Ami-rotica" since the fan base is pretty similar. We don't have a local Amish community, but we do have several Amish markets that are run by DE based Mennonites. 7y
Gnora My middle school library (weirdly) had a TON of Amish Lit. So that was a phase many years ago. No idea why they decided that was a good selection for middle schoolers, and not, you know, middle grade and YA lit. But I read what they had. Best part, we didn't even have the PA excuse, I live in Alabama! 😂 7y
Lynnsoprano Growing up in Bethlehem, PA and having a lot of Penn Deutsch heritage, I tried a couple Amish lit books. I found them very simplistic and not really worth the time. Characters were one dimensional. At least one felt like propaganda. 7y
