Girls Who Code
Girls Who Code: Learn to Code and Change the World | Reshma Saujani
8 posts | 5 read | 8 to read
Part how-to, part girl-empowerment, and all fun, from the leader of the movement championed by Sheryl Sandberg, Jack Dorsey, and other giants of tech. Since 2012, the organization Girls Who Code has taught computing skills to and inspired over 10,000 girls across America. Now its founder, Reshma Saujani, wants to inspire you to be a girl who codes! Bursting with dynamic artwork, down-to-earth explanations of coding principles, and real-life stories of girls and women working at places like Pixar and NASA, this graphically animated book shows what a huge role computer science plays in our lives and how much fun it can be. No matter your interest--sports, the arts, baking, student government, social justice--coding can help you do what you love and make your dreams come true. Whether you're a girl who's never coded before, a girl who codes, or a parent raising one, this entertaining book, printed in bold two-color and featuring art on every page, will have you itching to create your own apps, games, and robots to make the world a better place.

This was an awesome #nonfiction book about coding! It‘s been on my to-read ever since I saw Reshma Saujani‘s opening speech at the ALA Conference last June. The different examples given for each aspect of coding is relatable and easy to understand. I‘m definitely going to purchase this book for my school library.

Loved it! So uplifting and empowering. Started suggesting it to some of my girls even if they weren‘t into coding because the themes presented were so powerful and necessary for all girls.

Loving this audio book! It‘s reminding me of the successes I felt when I was working on my tech masters degree. I feel very connected with the thoughts presented in the intro about not feeling good enough at math and other areas that are/were predominantly male-centric. So glad this was recommended by @Floresj

Floresj I ❤️ this book....and hope we can get them to come to our HACKATHON!!!! 6y

These books came right on time yesterday with next-day free shipping from Amazon. Bought them as a gift for my girls who love STEAM and a friend of theirs who was having a bday. So excited for these new treats! I mean, I‘m kinda a STEAM Girl, too! Triple win! A gift for us all!

This past Friday, the Golden Public Library and the Girls in STEM accepted an award for partnership of the year from the Colorado Library Association. I thought it was cool but not a big deal - until I went to the awards banquet and accepted the award in front of over 500 people! I'm not sure which is the best part- how much our middle schoolers love teaching the younger kids, or how the younger kids love learning from the older kids!
