My Soul to Take: A Novel of Iceland
My Soul to Take: A Novel of Iceland | Yrsa Sigurdardottir
7 posts | 10 read | 13 to read
"Top notch crime fiction."--Boston Globe American readers first met Icelandic lawyer and investigator Thora Gudmundsdottir in Last Rituals. In My Soul to Take, internationally acclaimed author Yrsa Sigurdardottir plunges her intrepid heroine into even graver peril, in a riveting thriller set against the harsh landscape of Smila's Sense of Snow territory. A darkly witty and continually surprising suspense tale that places Yrsa Sigurdardottir firmly in the ranks of Sue Grafton, Tess Gerritsen, Faye Kellerman and other top mystery writers, My Soul to Take is ingenious Scandinavian noir on a par with the works of Henning Mankell and Arnaldur Indridason. Stieg Larsson (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) fans should also take note.

Set in modern day Iceland, in this absorbing page turner Thora Gudmundsdottir is a lawyer hired to represent the owner of spa and resort who wants to sue the previous owner because they feel the place is haunted and were not told. Thora is drawn into a murder investigation of owner, Jonas, accused of murder of an architect. The mutilated body is found on the beach no real clues. Then a second body is found.....
Recommended.

I've been waiting forever to read this author, and I have been missing out. The building tension and the murder investigation.....I cant wait to see how this ends.

This was a surprisingly good choice for the lead-up to Halloween, with a chilling prologue (I got shivers in public in broad daylight) and a plotline dealing with ghosts. I've read book 3 in the series and so have immediately requested book 4.

#seasonsreadings2016 #setonanisland I chose one of a series of of crime procedurals set in Iceland for this task. The author also wrote one of the creepiest ghost stories I've read in a while called I Remember You.

The second in a series of mysteries set in Iceland. The dialogue is a bit quirky sometimes and I don't know if that's intentional or a result of the translation? One aspect of the plot here was a bit absurd but I enjoyed it overall, and I love the main characters.

A little audiobook listening over lunch, at a newly discovered Argentinian lunch place! Roasted black beef and Gouda arepas and a mystery set in Iceland, can't beat it.
