I read this short story while I was online at Target yesterday. I'd never heard of it before I found a list of unsettling short stories somewhere. As the first one out of the gate, it doesn't disappoint.

Reggie Oh my g—, my 9th grade literature teacher made us read this one day. We had all entered loud and rambunctious and left her class in a funk. I remember this one guy who finished just asked her,”Why would you make us read something like that?” With hurt in his voice. She just laughed. Lol 5y
IamIamIam @Reggie Oh wow!!! I can totally see why you'd have felt that way!!! I remember being really depressed when my 10th grade teacher, who really should have been a college professor, had us getting down and dirty with poetry from WWI! 5y

My freshman English students will begin this story tomorrow. I hope they love it as much as I do. It‘s both tragic and beautiful.

abookishbutterfly I‘ve loved it since my freshman year. ❤️ I try to get everyone to read this story. 6y
Reggie Omg, our 8th grade teacher made us read this one day in class. I remember us being loud and boisterous coming in to class and then it was like all of us realized death was a thing. Then we were silent for the rest of the day. I love this story. 6y
