It took me a while to read this, partly because I'm having a busy period with very little time to read, and partly because this isn't a super easy text. That said, I enjoyed every page. The history, the hidden and not-so-hidden politics behind the events, the characters and especially Bánffy's understanding of what's going on in people's heads, these were all fascinating. I'm looking forward to going on to the second book of the trilogy.

Most of my #bookhaul didn't exactly stick to the intended Manx theme though...

The last book splurge of the year. Zeroed out the gift cards I got for Christmas. The next two Chief Bruno mysteries from Martin Walker and two volumes I have wanted for two years, the Everyman's Library editions of Miklós Bánffy's Transylvanian Trilogy.

I read the first, then what I thought was the second, and only discovered afterwards was actually the third. I didn't love it SO much as to go back and read the second for the sake of reading the second, either.
