5 posts | 16 read | 4 to read
Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia and star of Meg Cabot's insanely popular #1 New York Times bestselling Princess Diaries books, has "penned" her first historical romance novel . . . with help from Meg CabotHe's a tall, handsome knight with a secret. She's an adventurous beauty with more than a few secrets of her own. Finnula needs money for her sister's dowry, and fast. Hugo Fitzstephen, returning home to England from the Crusades with saddlebags of jewels, has money, and lots of it. What could be simpler than to kidnap him and hold him for ransom?Well, for starters, Finnula could make the terrible mistake of falling in love with her hostage. Princess Mia Thermopolis, Meg Cabot's most beloved character, has always been an outspoken animal-rights activist and committed environmentalist. In keeping with Mia's true spirit, Meg will be donating her advance to Greenpeace.

Are there any other die-hard Meg Cabot fans on Litsy who've 1) read this book 2) have any suggestions for books basically like this? This is the only romance I've ever read and I liked it a lot and I'm willing to try more, but only ones like this. Historical romance in which the MC is badass and does her own shit, basically. Like, feminist historical romance? Is that a genre? It should be. Suggestions appreciated 😊💗

Johanna414 Give Courtney Milan a try- I always really like the strong women in her romances. 8y
Chessa I have not read her yet, but I think Sara Maclean fits everything you're looking for, if the many Book Riot podcasts I've listened to are to be believed. :) 8y
Chessa Ok, I just wrote this comment and it disappeared, so apologies if it appears twice?! Anyway, I've heard Book Riot podcasts recommend Sara Maclean mannnnny times, and it sounds like her books fit all your criteria. She's on my TBR! 8y

MeganB Tessa Dare is also great! Both of her series are full of super smart ladies. Romancing the Duke is adorable (book 1 of Castles Ever After) and Week to be Wicked (book 3 (I think) of the Spinster Cove series) has a paleontologist heroine and the swooniest hero and a road trip 😜👍🏻 8y
MeganB Tessa Dare is also great for this. Both of her series are full of super smart ladies. My favorites are probably Romancing the Duke (book 1 of Castles ever After) and Any Duchess will Do from the Spinster Cove series. 8y
MeganB Guess the comments weren't disappearing! Sorry for so many 😬 8y
Chessa @MeganB I had the same problem! I tweeted at Litsy and they said they were doing an update. But I guess our comments were just waiting in the wings! 😂 8y
MeganB @Chessa good to know I'm not the only one who's looking a shade deranged 😂 8y
queerbookreader @MeganB @Chessa You're all good, thanks for the comments 😂💞 8y

This was the first romance novel I've ever read and I am SO GLAD it was this one!! I'm such a fan of historical fiction and this historical romance was extremely well-written. (I especially love the feminist undertones from Mia and the crossover between the novel and her life when she wrote it!)
