The Devil Is a Marquess | Elisa Braden
4 posts | 10 read | 4 to read
When a rake beyond redemption A walking scandal surviving on little more than wits, whisky, and wicked skills in the bedchamber, Benedict Chatham, the new Marquess of Rutherford, is at the end of his rope. Deeply in debt and down to his last farthing, he must marry nothing short of an absolute fortune, or risk utter ruin. Must marry for money Enter Miss Charlotte Lancaster, unfashionably tall heiress to just such a fortune and a clumsy, redheaded disaster in her five London seasons. While she dreams of leaving England for a life of trade in America, her father schemes to trade her dowry for a titleand Marchioness of Rutherford will do nicely. Charlotte wants her independence, not a husband, and certainly not a disreputable devil who renders her weak and wobbly with a single scorching glance. But shes a practical sort, and a year with the devil might buy her freedom provided she can resist his seductive charms. That shouldnt prove a problem, for he could not possibly want someone like her, and the feeling is mutual. Really. It is. Love grows in the most unexpected places When her father demands a startling price for his daughters handone year of fidelity and sobrietyChatham must change his libertine ways at least temporarily. And when he does, Charlotte begins to see him in a new lightnot as the scandalous charmer she married, but as the husband she just might adore.

If Sebastian St. Vincent and West Ravenel had a baby, his name would be Benedict Chatham, and that should tell you all you need to know about this book before you devour it whole and are still hungry for more, because there‘s just no way to get enough of this kind of histrom hero (I make zero apologies for that run-on sentence).

Thank you to @gigireadsromance and @nadiaandstepbacks for introducing me to Benny and his floral-flask carrying ways.🤍

I blame @gigireadsromance and @nadiaandstepbacks for me ditching my dizi this morning to read this instead.
Marriage of (in)convenience? Broke groom? Spitfire bride who just wants her independence?

Hello book lovers! My first book review here had to be about my husband Chatham.

This book is the perfect example of how powerful the
writing of Elisa Braden is, she can bring you angst,
together with hilarious moments. And the next you're
running for your fan and fainting couch.
It has only one bed, because they can't afford to buy extra furniture. Did I also say marriage of convenience?

Have you read and loved this masterpiece?!🤩

sadiereads Chatham 😩😩😩😩 2y
krisreadsromance Okay I‘ve seen this book pop up so many times and I‘m pretty sure the first time was from @gigireadsromance, so I clearly need to jump on this. 2y
nadiaandstepbacks @krisreadsromance omg please do!!! And come gush about my book hubby anytime 🤩🤧 @gigireadsromance didn‘t leave st. Vincent for him but she loves him too 😂😂 2y

I've been in a reading slump which gives me little patience to finish a long historical but this was highly recommended on ORBSC. The title is a misnomer. He is a NOT a devil. Only out of circumstance did he become a dilettante. Although landowner turned farmer is difficult to believe in those times because of strict social class structures, the romance is beautiful and sweet. I love romance after marriage #osrbc #romantsy

nadiaandstepbacks This my my all time favourite HR author 🤩 2y
