Devin and his sister Violet are visiting their Uncle Jack for the summer. He lives in an old house by the seashore. Jack was a sailor and he has collected strange and fascinating items from the sea. Exploring a back room, Devin and Violet discover a locked trunk. A pirate's chest. The trunk is wrapped in old, heavy chains and locked with a huge rusted lock. But they manage to get it open. They lift the lid slowly-and see that it's filled with antique jack-in-the-boxes. Huh? One box is hidden under the others, covered in dust. It plays an odd unpleasant song. Up pops a very ugly, mean-looking puppet, an old pirate with a dirty red bandana over his long greasy hair, scars on his cheeks, and a beard, and one eye missing. "Thanks for letting Sailor Jack out!" he rasps, bouncing on his spring. Devin and Violet now face new and troubling questions: Will Jack return them to their uncle? Just how much is a pirate's promise worth?

Inside the lighthouse were strange sounds, ancient artifacts, a talking cat, and a forbidden room! Soon, Violet and Shawn would find themselves sailing out to sea with Captain Jack and giant pirates on a mission to find a magical stone. If you like fast-paced books filled with adventure and horror, then “Attack of the Jack” is right for you!

SlappyWorld: Attack of the Jack (F) by R.L. a Goosebumps book, was… Well, a student I teach gives me his old books. His mom has him get rid of three before he gets a new one. He gave me only Goosebumps books. I thought it was very cute that he gave it to me, so I read so we could talk about. I had to laugh! It looks/sounds so ridiculous to Adult Me, but I loved Goosebumps as a kid. #LAE3414sp19

cwright However, even though everyone I knew in elementary school loved spooky sci-fi, I made the mistake of teaching a scary lesson about Lilith earlier this school year thinking they would love it and ended up having to cut it short and comfort two crying third graders who thought Lilith was hiding in their mirror, so maybe read the room and stick it in the library for an IR. 6y
