Gone with the Windsors
Gone with the Windsors | Laurie Graham
4 posts | 3 read | 4 to read
When Maybell Brumby, frisky, wealthy, and recently widowed, quits Baltimore and arrives in London, she finds that her old school chum, Bessie Wallis Warfield, is there ahead of her. Impoverished and ambitious as ever, Wallis is on the make. Hampered by plodding husband number two, but armed with terrific bone structure and a few erotic tricks picked up in China, Wallis sets her sights on the most eligible bachelor in the world: the Prince of Wales, heir to the throne. Maybell, with her deep pockets, makes the perfect ally, and her disarming dimness makes her the most delicious chronicler of the scandal that rocked a monarchy and changed the course of history.

1. Figure skating all the way. I got home from work 4.5 hours ago and all I‘ve done is watch the skating I missed overnight!
2. Laurie Graham- especially the tagged book! She‘s funny, smart and historically spot on.
3. January- I‘m all celebrated out for another year!
4. Death of Stalin - brilliant, funny but very, very dark
5. Happy birthday to all the February #littens - and to my mum (on the 12th!)

rubyslippersreads ❤️❤️❤️ Laurie Graham! 7y
Verity @rubyslippersreads I 💖 her books so much. I have a signed copy of GWTW that she sent me when I lent my copy to a friend who didn‘t return it and I moaned on Twitter that I hadn‘t got a copy any more. But it was too nice to read so I bought a second hand copy to read. Then the friend who nicked my copy had a book clear out and gave me first dibs before the charity shop and the original one was in the box so I got it back. So now I have 3 copies. (edited) 7y

6. At the moment, Irit Dekel is my most listened to
7. Blue
8. Detective or romance
9. BBC newsroom
10. No, but I claim a share of my parents dachshund puppy!

Sydsavvy BBC, seriously! Go you❣️ 7y

Sydsavvy Well I just have to say thank you for helping this American find some sanity in our most recent election. BBC coverage made me feel infinitely more sane. If that's possible. 💁🏻😳. Seriously thank you and tell your people, too! 7y
Sydsavvy And now I'm interested in that Gone with the Windsors too, lol! I remember picking up a book on Wallis once when I was in London but it was so heavy I bailed on it. 7y
Verity @Sydsavvy I love GwtW so much. Its a dim but snarky southern lady telling the story of the abdication. Frothy and funny and really quite accurate. Except for the fact that Maybell and her family didn't really exist! 7y
Sydsavvy That sounds perfect. I love Brit humor! 7y
rubyslippersreads Love this book! I need to reread! 7y

I'm in a book giving pyramid thingy - this is what I'm sending to my person. You're asked to send a well loved book. This is one of my all time favourites. It's out of print here so I had to get a secondhand copy but I think it's worth it.

I've never done a book post thing before - so many of the Litsy ones are in the US and i worry about the cost of postage (to get to me mostly). #bookpost #goingpostal
