Perplexing

I was going to write “I hope this is a debut novel” but on the cover it says this is a bestselling author, so I guess not... The writing in this book was so annoying and slow (she‘s trying to write action scenes and failing spectacularly) that I didn‘t even make it to 25%. All the characters and relationships also kind of made me gag so I‘m happily bailing on his one.

Ooohhh damn

I enjoyed this book a lot. It was full of suspense and a lot of good twists and I definitely did not lose interest at all. The characters were all very flawed and very real and it made this book even more interesting. I think the end was a little too open and some things needed better explanations. But, overall, I liked the story a lot!

Don‘t be put off by the weird cover; this is actually a well-done mystery told in the alternating voices of two sisters. One narrative strand starts with the shooting of one of the sisters; the other starts six weeks before the shooting and moves inexorably toward it. In the present, we want to know whether the shot sister survives and who shot her; in the past, we meet both sisters and come to understand their relationships. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Happy pub day to this one! I enjoyed the sisters' bond and really enjoyed Ellie as a protagonist. She's good. She's smart. And brave.
